Battlefield 3 no XP support

I've never had any problems with XP and think it's a decent OS (at least in terms of Microsoft's past efforts) but to put it simply, Windows 7 is better in pretty much every way.

Yes, there are a few differences in the graphical interface, but most of it is pretty minor and if you know how to use XP, you'll quickly get accustomed to Win 7 within a few days of use. Also the vast majority of changes and tweaks are fairly logical changes and don't encroach on the end user experience.

With regards to general desktop performance and game performance, I didn't notice any decrease coming from XP (using the same hardware). Using Windows 7 feels just as responsive as XP despite all the added graphical effects, plus some games run slightly faster for me.

Win 7 > XP

There's really no arguement here, expect from a tiny minority who think that their niche requirements in an OS is representative of the entire population.

Well its about time games started to move away from dx9. They cant support it forever. even microsoft want to stop supporting it and never intended to support it this long themselves. Tech moves on and its high time we say laters to xp. I have it on my laptop still and feels like a chore using it.

Its funny, I remember when Windows 95 appeared and dos based games were in the majority. While pure dos has less overhead and arguably ran the games better especially in the days of limited memory, an operating system does more than run games.

well then if this is true they should have supported dx10/11 into XP then instead of trying to 'bully' users into upgrading

EDIT: ok then its just MICROSOFT's GREED as usual :)

and remember that 'windows' is only a software interface so using XP does not mean you have a '10 year old system' its all about the hardware (and if your graphics card supports DX10)

not for long, enjoy your old horrible XP while i can play my DX11 Games on a better OS.

so will i but what great dx11 games will you be playing ?

what ground breaking dx11 games will you be playing fine sir :p

you wont see mainstream dx11 games for at least another couple of years and thats if it doesnt get passed by like 10 did.

if the games companies dont go with it its useless or almost useless

anyway enough of posting in here bf time :D

Do you realise how old windows xp is? seriously get a grip its not about bullying you into upgrading at all. Also it is about the os as it doesnt support the new cards not the other way round.

I thought no XP support had been known for months and months now

Dg are you able to form a coherent sentence? Decyphering your posts in order to attempt to figure out what on earth you're saying is a complete pain.

i can always dual boot if i really want to play BF3 but xp will always be my main OS, although last time i had an XP/win7 boot 'something' went wrong and both OS's ran really slow :( I FULLY blame win7 for this fault (opinion is not biased :D)

Umm... Battlefield 3? Even if playing in DX10 mode, you still wont be able to play it on XP....

I hope you're not using 32-bit at least.

Especially if you have more than 3.5GB total memory.

A streamlined XP system on modern hardware is a solid OS.

Apart from the fact that "modern" hardware almost certainly means 4gb+ of ram and at least a 756mb - 1gb ram video card or more.

Why would you run an OS that guarantees that you'll never be able to use all of the hardware your running it on?

How many people here are running 2gb ram or less on their "modern" systems?

I hope you're not using 32-bit at least.

I already asked how much memory he's using, it got glossed over for some reason....

About time really. Dx9 should be gone by now. Do you guys gaming on xp still use IDE HDDs? Its called progress.

I'm still using an IDE HD (and DVDRW for that matter). Doesn't have much bearing in gaming unlike XP.

As for DX9 there's nothing wrong with it IMO, plenty of quality games out there using DX9, and I reckon as long as the current generation of consoles stick around that will continue to be the case.
