Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

just want to add this
sp upto going hunting around 25-40fps with 4870 512mb and an e2140 @3.2ghz
1080 res everything is low with 3 on medium (texture, effects and 1 more)
1x aa hbao off and all that stuff. 85-99% usage max mem usage i saw was 490 something :D

im surprised that it even ran cos in beta i couldnt even play it even at lowest settings available in beta. havent tried mp tho but im prepared for the worst lol

You should leave the pagefile on your SSD - if there's one file that benefits most from being on the SSD it's the pagefile.

Noob guides get on my nerves dishing out bad information.

Really? The default allocated size for page file on system is 24 Gb. My SSD has 13 Gb free.

If I allocate page file to my SSD, it gets completely filled and goes red, which is absolutely no good for it and completely burns away its read and write speeds.

Probably means you either:
1. bought too small an SSD
2. have too much RAM
3. both

:(

Yes, 64 Gb SSD for Windows + drivers and 24 Gb ram means page file needs moving to a HDD.

I can't decide between a 570 or 6970 seems to to be bugger all difference between them except price and personal pref.

GTX 570 is a bit better.

Thats with Windows Vista. On Windows 7 I've disabled all page file on my SSD boot drive, and moved it to my Raid 0 HDDs with system managed size. I've never had any problems with this, though 1 Gb page file wont hurt on the SSD.

I just couldnt have 24 Gb reserved on my 64 Gb SSD for Page File :x

Is this right?

EDIT: I exited BF3 and my PC crashed and restarted!! Have I messed up the PageFile?

What does it say one window before that under 'total paging file size for all drives', how much system ram do you have, and did you restart your PC after changing the settings?

Total paging file size = 5024MB, I have 4GB of RAM. I did restart my machine after saving settings. In that picture have I moved the page file to the H:\ drive?

Try manually increasing it up to the recommended amount of 6141 mb. If that doesnt fix it, then put 1 Gb back onto your SSD.

I find that really weird that a PC would become unstable from moving page file to another drive :x

You mean change the page file on my H:\ drive to 6141MB? At the moment its set to system managed on the H:\ drive and the other drives have no page file like in the picture above.

Yea thats what I meant, because I think before you had 1 Gb on the SSD, and 5 Gb on the HDD?

Yes thats what I had before, now I have system managed on the H:\ drive HDD. It seems OK now... oh and I also moved Firefoxes temp internet files to another drive :)

Cant believe you have to do all these things to keep your SSD healthy, they are like a damn Alfa Romeo!

The write speed on my SSD has already been completely butchered by the page file. I had it running almost completely full for too long not knowing what to do to free up space until I posted in the hard drive section, then I figured out it was page file.

The read speeds are fine, but write speeds dropped to around 25-30 mb/s. Page file is simply bad for SSDs.

Ouch! Feel for ya bud. Am I OK with my current setup?

If its not crashing anymore then its fine.

Haha that's always a good way to check ;) So I take it BF3 was using more than 4GB of ram but as I had no page file Windows 7 crashed?.... think it might be time to upgrade. £40 for 8GB 1600Mhz is cheap as chips.

Bah. I got 24 Gb for £215, and then another 24 Gb for £140 to test them out, but the latter died and I got them refunded.

Ram prices dropped right after I bought my overpriced Vengeance modules, I though that £80 per 8 Gb was as low as they were ever going to get .... I was super wrong :x

I have noticed that 4gb of ram is being used up by BF3 too (usually around 75ish% so i assume pagefile is also being used)
What would be the recommended amount of RAM for BF3, would another 4gb fix this.

Having said this BF3 seems to be running perfect on all ultra settings with MSAA on x4 and everything else on max too. Frame rate typically stays around the 60FPS mark (vsync on) and rarely dips to below 50/high 40s.... I was not expecting it to perform this well to be honest, after reading all the specs from EA.
Spec is i5 @4.4 and single 6950 @930/5400

So the benchmarks I have seen from reviews are really just BS due to poorly set up computers. People here with overclocked 2500k's and GTX 560 tis / 5870s / 6950s are playing the game very well.

Just loaded this game on yesterday with doubts about it running well, I was wrong luckily. Got the pc in me sig below and with everything on ultra (including shadows), I haven't seen fps below 50fps and its usually around the 60-65 mark. Saying that I don't tend to look at the fps that much as I'm more often than not, too busy dying, (I suck at these games till I get me head round them). Now this is in SP so the reuslts in MP I don't have a clue, but me son will deffo want to have a go later on.
Also, no stuttering, jerkines or anything, just runs nice and smooth. When me son gets his copy, he'll try it with the same cpu/ clock, 4gb ram and 6850 1gb. I'm curious to see how that card copes.
