I remember someone posting a link to a site with Treyarch saying something along the lines of, that the current engine needs a few tweaks here and there and it can do similar to what the Frostbite engine can do, it's just whether Activision will say yes.

No they said that nothing Activision can produce will come close to what Frostbyte 2 can produce. For them to design a new engine would be counter productive. All Call of duty will be is an expansion pack with some new mod's every year. Little bit of a fanboi reply but it is true.

There was talking of them designing a new engine.

Few tweeks my arse.

I think Wes' is right mate. The guy said, with little tweaks, the Treyarch engine could compete. I doubt it

New engine maybe:

Josh Olin is a true gamers gamer, but with Battlefield 3 coming Call Of Duty is at risk of losing the FPS title. It is confirmed that Treyarch is working on a new project but will they up the ante to seriously compete against the future of FPS games such as Medal Of Honor as well.

Ha beautiful comment from the DICE community dude.

One also said "call of duty is a childrens game." Even more beautiful, I can hear the cries all ready.

Lets remember also all the problems that Treyarch inject into a title when they only slightly tweak it. They're given a perfectly working game + engine by ye olde IW, they only ever really have to reskin a few things and they're good to go, but no, they tweak something and all of a sudden a game that looks no different gives you a third of the FPS that the IW counterpart does.

So Treyarch talking about major engine changes is just downright dangerous.

to be honest you cant compare them.

comparing waw to bfbc2 :confused:bfbc2 out later so is bound to be more advanced.

they dont need to make it more advanced than bfbc series as it will still sell ten times more than the bf series put together. thats why cod isnt updated. why risk a billion a yr to please some pc nerds :p

what a lot seem to forget its not all about fancy graphics . its the gameplay. thats why i end up going back to cod 4 everyday :)

so hopefully bf3 has this cause thats what bfbc2 was slightly lacking in.

You can't

they are completely different games. I'm neither a child, or a fan boy, and enjoy playing both the COD and the Battlefield franchise.

I've owned and played every single game in both franchises just about. Heck, i even played Codename Eagle when a mate brought it along to one of the LAN parties i went to.

Its pointless arguing over which has the best engine, and over which can or can't compete, because its all pointless.

If DiCE fail to stuff up BF3 and make a good game, it will sell by the bucket load, as will next COD game, map pack + graphics and all. The vast majority of COD gamers simply don't mind (myself included)

Eh?

They're both FPS set in a modern day world, with real world weaponry and we can't compare them?

Even when DICE consider Treyarch a main competitor? We STILL can't compare them? :\

Ok then.

It's active discussion, it's good, why discourage that? It's not pointless at all. Just because you seem to think it's pointless, it has a point for most that's why we're discussing it.

Why is it so hard to just have a discussion?

we're having a discussion

COD is primarily an arcade game.

Its full of people jumping around like they're in Halo, drop shotting and quick scoping etc..

yes its an FPS, but its never going to be like the battlefield series which has always tried to be more realistic.

Dice have always been better at introducing technical improvements. The frostbite engine in Bad Company was a genuine huge leap forward technically.

Something COD has never done just re hashing the same idea and engine just with slightly different graphics every year.

Call of Duty is a competitor to the Battlefield series.
They may not be the same, or even aiming for the same thing, but they are direct competitors.

Personally, I'm fed up of Call of Duty, no innovation!

Battlefield all the way! :D

Yep, I was looking at some BO gameplay yesterday, and it struck me, its the same graphics and gameplay that it has been for the last 4-5 years, since COD4.

They struck gold with COD4, but have never been able to reproduce it yet!

IT TOOK YOU tTHIS long to realize how pathetic COD is? i gave up on COD4!!!

soooo...the new trailer is ok.
im glad they have done it like it is since it makes the game seem like any other game out there atm.
typical run and gun type affair really.

and the graphics dont look particularly ground breaking either.
