Mostly Urban maps, great.

I always thought the best thing about the BF Series was open world maps. Then the community decided to just play City maps constantly, shaem really, if I wanted to run around buildings I'd play COD as its a better FPS for infantry. BF was always about the bigger picture for me.

Every1 seems to have forgotten the AMAZING rank system they had.... i hope above all else they keep that the same.

The awesome rank system, which got hacked over more then thousand times and where people could stat-pad their ranks and badges? And people getting resets for doing nothing wrong? Yes a great rank/stats system.

No offense to your opinion, but the rank/stats system wasn't great.. it was terrible in my eyes.

I have to agree with that. One of the things that I loved about BF1942 was maps like el amiem [spelling?] where you had a huge map with tons of directions to come from.

If its all true, I also dont really like the city focus. And I really hope that it not all set in deserts and we get some temperate / winter / tropical maps.

One of the great things about BF2 was that there were 3 factions and 3 tilesets so it did not get samey very quickly (SF made it even better). Although too many people ended up just playing IO Karkand 24/7 so may aswell have not bothered.

Lol i was one of them..... DICE have said players only tend to play 2 maps. Mine were Karkand and Dalian plant.

See this is something which irks me about games these days.

Its being released in March 2011 , is that correct? So thats ...what.. almost a year and a half away. Plus whatever development time they have already put into it. Lets be conservative and say they have only done 6 months work on it so far.

So...2 years. 2 years...and all they can provide is 8 ...8 maps. Thats 1 map designed every 3 months. Surely they can provide more than that? 8 maps just seems so few to me.

They can always make some after release and charge you for them even. Generally they want to implement a subscription system like has made so much money for blizzard, those guys must be richer then bill gates by now

development times for these games would cost much more then ten years ago I think and playtesting, bug fixes and so why give anything much away for free if it can be spread out after launch. If the game dives then that cost is never there

Oh yes...I am certain you are right. No doubt they will make some after release and then charge us for them as part of an "expansion".

I dont know, I am sure the game will be good, after all BF 1942 is one of my favourite shooters of all time. I still play it today. Its my favourite of the series. Cant help but feel though that 8 maps for 2 years of development is pretty poor. Though I suppose they will do that all too common dev thing these days of producing a "system" and then expect the gamers to make the content. Much easier that way, probably one day we will go to a cinema and be told the general story but we have to make the actual film ourselves :D

One of the members over at www.enterbf3.com, a forum devoted to anything BF3 related, recently contacted one of the DICE developers, specfically a guy working on the lighting, in regards to his recent accidental mishap involving putting down on his personal website/CV thing that he'd 2009- Been working on Lighting for BF3 and Mirrors Edge 2, when the member contacted him about it, the developer said. "Cant comment on that".. Funnily enough both were removed in quick time and replaced with 'Lighting at EA DICE'

Anticipation is killing me. Bring on March 2011 :D

Lol love it, really hope they make progress with BF3 rather than go back... BF3 needs to have the same feel as BF2 but with everything superly upgraded and updated

Built in auto updater Isn't necessarily a good thing particularly if it's a big file & the server download speed is pants, a couple of games I had with this feature managed to download at a crawl & then fail to install properly, give me Gamershell or similar type speeds for patches that I can download in a few minutes & then play the game
