Oddly enough I tried out the M40/ .44 magnum combo on Metro last night, it's damn good fun.

In saying that I don't think there's anything particularly special about the M40, that guy is just insanely good at getting twitch-headshots. I'll bet the rage and the accusations of "HAX!" were in full flow! :D

At the moment the M416 is superior to the L85A2 in every way, that will change once the patch comes out as the L85 gets deserved buffs in better bullet spread and lower recoil.
 
Havent unlocked the m40 yet. But ive just broke my longest headshot record earlier. Was 502.95m, playing a 1v1 sniper battle on firestorm with my nephew, killed him at 1127m. Did take quite a few shots though.
 
just tried that m40 with iron sights pull pin its a monster :p

nearly 30 no scope kills on matts on bizar last round just running around .
 
Hardcore server with a number of Usas rounds to his face at arms length. One shot bang I'm dead sometimes I wonder why I even bother loading this game up

Personally, I've unlocked 3 shotguns:

870, tight pellet spread, good if you can aim
M1014, wider pellet spread, good if you can't aim
USAS-12, mega ROF but high recoil and you dont get much ammo

I've never had any success with slugs, flechette and frag ammo (or medium/long range shooting).

I only use them on TDM-Canals/Karg to get specific ribbons and medals (I think there is too much spread even on Grand Bazaar).

Sooooo, try the basic 870 (no scope/buckshot) on a 48/64 player TDM Canals map, I think its great fun.

The long range deaths come from the Frag Rounds which have a practically unlimited range.

I was using the DAO 12 the other day with frag rounds on rush, and its great for just putting rounds into tight spaces and supressing the enemy due to the splash damage. Furthermore the range on them is so long you can practically snipe with the damn thing.

Watch the two kills kill at 1:29 to 1 :50 (the sniper shot on canals and the magnum on metro)

He zooms in, points the gun in roughly the right direction, it pauses, then suddenly moves directly to his head. He even provided a nice little slow mo just to slow it all down for us so we can clearly see it.

That was before he got better at hiding his aimbot !

Headshots are rather easy to get in this game, i get them at least 95% of the time.

Finally had a good day on it yesterday, ranked up a fair bit and got 699 skill level.
