Battlefleet Gothic: Armada

I just finished reading that a few days ago.

Working my way through the Horus Heresy novels.

Likewise! No spoilers of course, but I've devoured at least 20 40k books since I first discovered them at the end of last year. Hence why I'm so excited for this.

There seem to be a lot of rubbish games out that ride on the 40k IP, but this actually looks like a decent game, with the awesome 40k lore as a cherry on top. This and Eternal Crusade. Not long to wait for this anyway. March release isn't it?

Yup! Spent just over two years from start to finish of the Horus Heresy. What a great series :D

Worried about the devs having walked from two previous games they released and never supported after

according to a thread on the steam discussion forum that was down to the publishers, not the dev team.

either way, if the reviews come back positive ill most likely be buying.

They seem very into the lore, from that video at least, so I think they are really doing their best for this. They spoke about adding in the other factions in the future too (Tau, Necrons etc).

First impressions: fired up the game to play a few minutes before bed. 3hrs later I've been told off by my missus. It's really good.

Bloody hard, but I just won my first battle. Ramming a smaller ship and seeing your prow emerge through its flaming wreckage: amazing. It's a lot deeper and has a lot more of an rpg element to it than I thought it would. Lots more complexity to it both in combat and before the combat. It really punishes you if you just go all guns blazing.

Shaping up to be a really good game at first glance. Only bug I encountered was the controls were set up all weird until I reset them to default.

I'll buy it when it has a release date.

It is a 40K game so I was always going to buy it even if the reviews were terrible. :(

I will say that I had a great deal of enthusiasm for this games launch. That said, here we go.

I'm not ready to demand my refund and will have patience that this gets worked out, but I will say I find the game to be very disappointing so far. Its not even so much the bugs, that I expect. However, this game is supposed to "go live" in just a couple weeks, and if this is the state it's in, it isn't ready. This is more like an Alpha test than a Beta.

Why do I say that? Only 1v1's are available, no friend support, only 2 factions are available (and those, limited.) The controls and UI are not intuitive or user friendly even with a re-map. The camera is very awkward and, again, even with a re-map will interfere with ship movement.

The multiplayer games lack any kind of substance or objective other than to kill the enemies fleet in a head on collision. There is no adjustment of point values for games, so your stuck with the cap it puts on you based on level, or so I assume. There doesn't seem to be any way I've found to allow it to be adjusted.

The leveling system punishes you for taking damage or losing a ship. If the ship is heavily damaged, you cannot use it for another game. If destroyed, 2 games. This means you need to outfit an entire fleet of escorts, join a game to get steamrolled or immediately warp out, so that you can get whatever capital ships available again. Why? Why would you punish us FOR PLAYING THE GAME!? NAME ME ANY, ANY, SUCCESSFUL RTS THAT DOES THIS?

In other words, I get to play a game normally, then I get to throw away the following game, so I can have all my ships returned to me for the third game....unless I want to burn my Reknown points.

I won't comment on balance yet as the game is only a few hours old, but the matchmaking had better not remain as it is, or this game will die in its infancy. The wide range of those with unlocked abilities and ship classes being paired against those that don't is ugly and frustrating. The compartmentalization of the ships during battle is difficult to distinguish or even target and doesn't really seem to provide any added benefit, which was supposed to be a main feature of this game.

I don't know that its fair to say my dreams are crushed, but I feel very let down with what I've seen and played thus far. Its possible the fault is mine in that I had too high hopes for this game. The game's sound is fantastic, and the close up models of the ships and terrain are astounding. While these are solid positives, its not NEAR enough to keep me interested if the game play itself is flawed.

Yes, I know its a "beta" but its a beta we are given access to ONLY A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE THE GAME GOES LIVE. So this wasn't supposed to be so much an early access as a stress test. It was supposed to be an incentive to pre-order the game. I fear the whole effort was simply a way of generating money to finish the game, as they may not have had the funds to do so...if true, and its just my speculation, that does not bode well for the future of this game.

Could be a bit of drama llama syndrome though...

Kinda have to echo those sentiments. Played it last night and it does seem...eeeermmm...far from finished. If it was still in alfa that would be excusable, but I doubt it is.

We'll have to see though. Not going to refund it yet, but will be bitterly disappointed if it doesn't deliver.

I can't say that those are my feelings on it. I'm really enjoying it so far, although I have been playing the SP skirmish (which is a bit of a mini campaign in itself). I have yet to see any bugs either. Will give MP a go now and report back

E: had the occasional issue where I had to go back to main menu after finding a match, and the occasional fatal error CTD. In terms of actual game bugs and balance though, everything seems fine to me. Had some very intense convoy defense games. Made the mistake of going full ahead on one of the transport ships and gave it away, after successfully sneaking the other two past. Cue a race to the other side of the map culminating in some, if I say so myself, genius play to keep his fleet from catching up

Here's a stream of the general ship customisation, and a couple of multiplayer battles where I get my rectum torn open :) Still processing but will be 1440p 60fps at max settings. Forgot to change my audio so mic is a bit quiet, sorry about that.

Been playing the MP Beta and I'm loving it so far, I never expected it to have a decent Single player but by the Emperor it's glorious, just look at the detail in these cut scenes. It's probably the best story I've played so far in a 40k setting!

Yeah I've maxed out the MP level cap for the beta. Super excited for release. Only thing that bugs me is people who stack nova cannons. No problem with them on their own, but I had a guy hit me with 5 in a row. Few balance tweaks to be had but otherwise I think it's pretty polished (assuming they fix the fatal error crash)

Defiantly think the Nova cannon will get a nerf.

I think it's a tough one though, because it's only OP when you stack them. By itself it's only good for getting Shields down or finishing off an escort. You shouldn't be able to fire more than two in quick succession though.

In lore terms, the sheet amount of power needed to fire multiple nova cannons would be immense...
