Battlefleet Gothic: Armada

If it does well then we should see them as dlc. For now all I know is that space marines will be the first dlc faction (free with preorder, no idea how much after)

Release has been announced as 21st April btw

The Ork battleship is a monster if you can get it close up. Just punishing damage. The key to defeating them is to use your faster ships to stay away from them and use your better range to pick them apart. I have given nearly all of my Ork ships the better thrusters to help counter that, but chaos ships still run circles around Ork ships if they are used right.

One thing that is a bit OP is the brute ramming ships. They can take out transports and defense platforms so quickly (sometimes just one hit). Give them better thrusters, better boost gauge for more ramming range, and better armor to get in close and they are lethal against small ships. Think they may need to buff platforms against ramming damage tbh.

Empire ships are pretty weak against orks. The only thing that keeps them going is their better range and more flexible boost usage to get out of range and dodge torps. First thing I do is target engines on every ship when I'm playing Ork. Child's play to win then

Bought this the other week but never got round to playing it. Having watched the videos posted in here I thought I best give it a go and bloomin 'eck it's quality!

I have, atm, no real idea what I'm doing or what's the best ships + upgrades but the battles are great. I've had a few wins and a few losses but I can already see the potential and depth hidden within.

Oh, and no! I'm not man enough yet to play it vs any of you :p

Is it pvp only? Actually looks a lot better than I thought.

Skirmish AI, Online MP and a Campaign mode are available in the WIP beta. No idea how long or big the Campaign is.

As above, campaign mode is a crisis management type campaign with multiple systems to defend against the forces of chaos and xenos. The Dev preview with angry Joe seems to hint at it being fairly big, but if course they would say that.

I took a break from orks to see what it was like playing against them.

My usual imperial brawling was a hard habit to shake. Lots of boosters required to avoid boarding torpedoes and ramming, but I failed to stay out of reach (taunt is a bitch like that) and got rinsed.

Chaos I fared much better. Bombers and boarding ships helped slow them down (always target those engines), but I wasn't paying enough attention and my circling ships ended up circling into a world of hurt. Those orks just wreck up close.

Is this worth picking up for someone who enjoys RTS games, normally I prefer ground based RTS's such as C&C, SC and Warcraft etc. Although it's ship based is this along similar lines?

It's different from those in that you start each round with a finite set of ships you selected, and it's about deploying them to best effect. No economy to manage. Just fight the best fight. I think it's excellent.

If you want something along the lines of C&C or SupCom then Ashes of the singularity is great for that

Ashes I think is something I will pickup anyway as the large scales fights do look good.

With Gothic I was thinking more about the way you control the ships, is it along the lines of traditional RTS's where you point and click or more like Homeworld where you have elevation to think about as well as formations etc?

It's on a 2d plane, so no elevation. Just point and click. Obviously you need to think about the orientation of your ships to point your broadsides at the enemy, or do high energy turns to swap sides while they reload. Range matters, with some factions having faster ships with long range weaponry vs others having slow brawlers. You dance the dance and see who can turn it to their strengths

Oh hadn't seen the elder trailer. Runs off to watch it.

Picked this up over the weekend and loving it so far, been ages that I have bought a game that keeps pulling me back to play it :)

It's a great game, infact you don't even have to know what your doing to enjoy it...that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it !!!

Looking forward to trying out the Eldar tonight.
