Bayonetta

Picked bayonetta cheaply online a week ago and I have had a chance to finally play it last weekend. This game is awesome but hard (even on normal) as you can do so many different moves. Also I find it very difficult doing the whole levels without dieing as you can hardly ever replenish your lost HP but the quick save every so often helps a lot. If they didn't implement quick saves then this game would end up being hated by everyone imo.

I also like how you face new different enemies and that you don't have to fight countless waves of enemies. I finished 5 levels in like 4-5 hours but I played 1-3 twice now to get some extra rings and to practice a bit more as I am getting killed a lot in level 4-5.

God, picked this up cheap after not being that impressed with the demo (but decided to risk it after the review scores and crashing prices).

Got to say, either I'm completely missing the point, or it hasn't clicked, or this is imho one of the worst games I've ever played.

Finished this the other night, the story is a bit woolly but the combat is incredibly deep and the difficulty is pitched perfectly. After spending the first hour a bit unsure it really got its teeth in and I was glued to it right through till the ludicrously over the top climax.

It kind of depends on if you are into this type of game or understand the combat mechanics especially when compare to other similar games, though it is much closer to the likes of Devil May Cry & Ninja Gaiden than say God of War.

This game is bloody mad. I'm hooked.

Playing on Normal, up to chapter 6 and I've died loads. Boss fight on chapter 4 was just nasty, but so so satisfying :D

By the end of Normal you'll be a angel slaying beast... then you'll try Hard and die just as much but love it even more.

Then finally you'll try 'ultimate climax' difficulty, the tutorial about witch time will appear, and then it'll smack you in the face with the line 'witch time is not possible in ultimate climax difficulty'. My face melted the moment i saw that message.

Bah, its hard enough on Normal with witch time. There is so much depth to the game in terms of weapons, items, challenges, as well as pure platinum medals to be obtained. Definitely something to be played through again and again!

Keep in mind you keep weapons and powerups through subsequent playthroughs. Weapons that absolutely pwn will be available from the get-go in Hard and it makes it more than doable. I suck at these sorts of games an i clocked hard, even with a few platinum medals.

Learn some of the more powerful features of the weapons, the charge attacks of the claw weapons are devastating and switching to lt kilgore at key times in a combo can destroy bosses in a matter of seconds. Also there's accessories that aren't even unlocked until you've completed the game in Normal, one of which allows you to deal incredible amounts of damage to even the toughest enemies with utter ease, all you need is a bit of good timing.

To put it bluntly, you haven't even begun to discover the depth of this game yet. You've got a lot to look forward to.

I know, that's the great thing :D

Just taking it easy on my first playthrough, are there any essential items/techniques to buy? I have Air Dodge and Bat form, but some people have also recommended Stiletto (FALCON PUNCH much?) and I'm not sure. I've started relying on continues rather than spending money on potions and stuff, I think the money can be put to better use.

Also, I still need to get the hang of combos, at the moment I really can't link anything. While I try not to 'button mash', I need to learn more combos off heart and when to use them...if you have any tips, they would be appreciated! Also, I've been watching a couple of YouTube videos of people's combo sequences, some of them are just amazing - how do you keep an enemy in the air and pound the heck out of them?

Really enjoying it, the lack of substance in the story is made up by fantastic combat and immense depth!

The best weapons available on the first + second playthrough are the claws (forget their name) and the rocket launchers (lt kilgore). The charge attack on the claws is devastating and, if used correctly in a combo, lt kilgore can deal stupid amounts of damage.

I didn't really use many of the moves other than air dodge and the animal forms, stiletto is indeed useful for keeping combos flowing though. It gets you back into the action very quickly if you've strayed too far, thus keeping the combo counter ticking over.

In Normal and Hard i didn't use a single item, like you i relied on continues when i cocked up. In infinate climax however i did use loads of lollys etc as it's much, much harder and it is near impossible to complete many of the fights without their use (a continue will bring you back to the beginning of a specific fight with full health, useful in the lower difficulties but pointless if you can't make it through that fight at all without the use of a lolly in infinate climax).

If i were you i'd focus on saving money to go towards weapons then, when you complete your Normal playthrough, concentrate on saving up for the accessory that allows counter attacks. It's one of the most useful accessories in the game as not only does it block an attack, if timed well it deals significant damage to the enemy, if timed perfectly it also initiates a free witchtime attack.

By the end of my Hard playthrough my best weapon sets were claws in electricity form on the hands and flame form on the feet and then my second weapon set was lt kilgore. I'd build up a combo with the claws then finish with lt kilgore to do some silly damage. Doing combos is all about the timing with which you press the buttons, for example five hits one after the other will do five attacks, four hits, a pause and another hit will trigger a really decent combo iirc (it's been a while so my numbers might be off). Basically it's all about at what point in a combo you pause, then initiate another attack.

With that said, as you say, some of the guys on youtube are just silly good, i can't do half the stuff they can.

At the moment I have the claws, but there is another pair available for purchase from the shop. I suppose getting these would allow me to have them equipped on both hands and feet at the same time, so I'll save up. I also have the shotguns (onyx rose or something?) unlocked at the shop, but I haven't bought them. There is one unknown slot, which I presume is Lt. Kilgore. I'll probably pick up stiletto, it does look quite powerful, and 20k isn't too much compared to 120k or so for another pair of claws.

I've also been replaying some earlier chapters to get all the witch hearts and such; I guess this will help me a lot later on. Time to play!

This is one of those games where, once you have mastered it, it actually feels like an achievement to have 1000/1000 or a Platinum Trophy for it.

I have good memories about this game, I have since traded it... and its one of the only games, along with Street Fighter 2 on the SNES, to actually give me a blister through constant gameplay :D

Through morbid curiosity I check combo vids on youtube.... there is no way I am anywhere near that level lol.

Btw... for Infinite Climax I used 2 sets of rocket launchers.. and spammed their combos :)

A good grinding spot for potion components is Chapter 2... i just ran back and forth through that level shoot out the windows.. these respawn once you get further into the level... then I would just finish the level and save... and repeat :)

Started playing this again after an exam break. I'm up to chapter 14 now... and the Jeanne fight is raping me hard :(

Any tips? Once I get onto the second part, I can't last very long due to being unable to dodge quick enough (seriously, theres like a 0.01s time window...) and generally being pounded. I'm stuck at this point for the time being.

Iirc I pretty much used the x,x,x,y combo but majority of the time she would react before the y hit.. so i ended dodging.. Witch time is essential tbh.. keep battling away and you'll get it.

If you can do Hard difficulty then defo try Infinite... so much fun lol :D

I mostly dodged around against Jeanne as much as possible (3 times is ok but the 4th leaves you on the floor...).

I like the punch kick punch combo because it does that big punch at the end.. safer to try this once or even twice than a longer combo.. though the pppkk combo is a good longer combo which you can charge the kick afterwards for the fire ball if your using the claws in fire mode on your feet.

I didnt realise I even had the xtra weapons on my first play through... :)
