BBC Issue apology over Ross/Brand 'Prank'

LOL now over 550 posts and still the majority of posters in the thread still fail to grasp the reality that it's an offence to harass or talk lewd on a phone in the UK, therefore if someone representing the BBC is caught red handed doing this then they have to go, how frickin' simple can it be lol :o

I couldn't care less personally whether I'm offended or not, it's irrelevant, the bottom line is it's unacceptable for anyone representing the BBC to act like this when it's very clear in phone regulations that it is an offence to make such calls, it starts and ends their, nothing more nothing less

Try doing this yourself and start the egg timer to see if it runs out before your told to do one by your employer

This isnt just about what was said, if they'd done it from their own house thats another whole ball-game but to do it from their place of work is plain stupid and out of order

If the show was pre-recorded, the goon who ok'd it to air is the ONLY one who should be paying for this. If I had a radio show, and did a pre-recorded segment making obviously "not fit to air" comments, the only way a producer would braodcast it, is to create contraversy.

....And don't forget even after it was aired, it made the podcast which is available about 2-3 days afterward lol and edited!!

Scott Mills does it all the time, why no fuss there then?

What you fail to realise is that all this whole situation has done, has given a voice to people who dont like them as entertainers anyway.

I think frankie boyle was funny, but is now tiresome and crap... If he was thrust into the media spotlight people with opinions like me would have a place to moan.

People can like and dislike who they want.. watch what they want or dont want..

freedom of choice. people have took it personal, however the people who were the actual personal targets of this, have accepted the apologies and acted respectfully (cept for the cash in grand daughter)

I think Russell Howard on Mock the Week is absolute dump, and i dont think he deserves a spot on it, but thats just my thoughts..

If this crap comedian made a joke about Bum raping Michael Parkinson then the BBC would be in a world of grief, then Haters would have a chance to complain like hell and give them some crap for it :D

All its done has put them on a pedastal in place to recieve grief from people. Dont go thinking its from people who actually like these entertainers.. because people who like them, would accept it was a bit bad taste, but their liking for them would make them overlook it

So in lamens terms summary as long as you like them they can effectively get away with anything, the old rose tinted specs scenario basically

No no, im saying that people get away with it all the time, but just because it got brought up in the news, now lots of people are acting all high and mighty and making out that they think its the worst thing ever!

comedy has always pushed the boundries in clubs and in dvds for years, but just because it went on a bbc broadcast (a mistake by the broadcaster, not the comedian)... now everyone is kicking off.

People need to get a grip and be realistic. its was a **** up, but people have apologised.

the only people wanting them punished are the people who dont like their tv shows/radio shows... and in turn see an oppurtunity to have a good moan that might be read/heard

I think you'll find that people who want them punished also may do so because they know full well if they did this they'd now have been sacked from work and be getting investigated

Why the hell is this a top news story - it's a non-event. Especially with the economic news etc that is far more important right now!

its so annoying that 20,000 people want to cause a fuss over rubbish like this, when we let the government walk all over us and we do and say nothing.

The main problem is the fact it was broadcast. Brand and Ross we're probably working on the assumption that anything inappropriate would be edited out but the whole thing went out!

Brand and Ross have apologised and it has been accepted by the 'victim'.

its time people worried about major issues instead of things like this.

One thing I never understand is how people actually live in some dream world with the thought that everyone is actually equal.

No.. unfortunately life aint like that, if I pranked a collegue and got busted.. yeah i would get sacked.

I accept the fact that celebrities get away with things. Its just nature. Theres too much money involved.

if people complained every time they felt hard done by because of some celebrity getting away with behaviour that others wouldnt.. then they wouldnt have time to actually live their life, they would be too busy writing to points of view.

Just accept that life works like this.

Money, Power, Fame.. they all dominate over boring people like me and you. dont take offence to it

Oh and the fact that you say normal people wouldnt get away with it..

I forgot that they apologised and the apology was accepted.. and they didnt want it to go any further. so infact. none of us would get sacked either. If the victim said "nah boss its fine, he apologised and i accept, as long as it doesnt happen again, i dont want any revenge on him"

Intriguing to see the words "offend everyone" in there. A gross exaggeration that I would have expected to see from the media, but not a rational person.

TWO people complained about the program... Until the Daily Mail got involved...

This makes me laugh a lot and for several reasons.

1) It was fairly funny. That is my sense of humour - so what?

2) The mass-hysteria and complaining took A WEEK!!! One full week. Let's get a proper handle on the fact that out of 400,000 people who originally heard this, not one complained about the content. Not one. Two complained about the language, not one about the call. I believe it is one of those things where 'you had to be there'.

3) This has taken over the media for 3 days - c'mon people, this is truly insane.

4) Brand HAS slept with the girl in question, 3 times according to her. Has Sachs ever said he's surprised about hearing about his grand daughter having slept with brand? And what does the baying mob reckon will have upset Sachs more, the fact brand/ross have left this voicemail, or the fact that his rand daughter has not only tried out for page 3 in the Sun previously and is in a group called the Satanic ***** AND is spreading herself all over the tabliods in slutty clothing?

5) Stop bleating on about being 'your money' - it isn't. I tried to use the fact that MY taxes were used to detain the baby-killing piece of **** in a thread earlier this week, only to be shot down by some sniveling 'tards saying that I pay the government and that I should complain to my MP. Ok, I want to complain about East Enders. It's tripe. If I got 18000 idiots together to whine about the fact that the story lines are more far-fetched that even the most backward of yankie trailer-trash would struggle to believe them, would they suspend the Bradley, Max and Stacey? Thought not.

Why can the media not take a look at the real news out there? It isn't news, it is a witch-hunt, in which 18,000 people have decided to complain simply because they don't like the people involved. If they were that horrified, why did they not whine earlier? Was is because there wasn't a nice big bandwagon to dive on?

It happened, the producers should have pulled it, they didn't. Brand and Ross have both apologised, Sachs doesn't want to go. any further. Let's just drop it and get on with our lives ffs.

It also took 9 days for the BBC to formally apologise, and 10-11 for Brand/Ross to...........actions speak louder than words

Indeed, when Scott was phoning "Harry Beaver" and "Willie Boner" in his phonebook game, who complained??? He also did the whole "how far would a florist go" thing and on "Oh, what's occuring...?" he phones all sorts of people regularly.

A nice rant but fails to address the fact that 1 complaint or 18,000 is bye the bye, thats not the issue, they are responsible for phone harassment even if the whole world bar the Sachs family thought it was funny and didnt complain, an offence is an offence, end of

haha hes quit, woot but he will still be on other channels, he can go to CH4 because that is a **** channel that churns out his type of stuff every week

it all stinks of OMG BANDWAGON!! and if the Daily Mail are the culprits then it only extends my hatred of that god awful newspaper.

It should be up to Andrew Sachs if this is a big matter or not. He has accepted the apology. There is no need for this outcry. If Ross gets sacked i'll be complaining about his sacking.

Your understanding of the law is an abject failure.

Get over yourself. From your rationale, I could complain about the fact I don't agree with the child abuse storyline in East Enders. I do find it distastful but my wife seems to enjoy the show. If I complain, should it be pulled, the producers and writers sacked? Or does it take two people. Using your ridiculous logic, I could complain about all the guff on the BBC I find offensive and then get it pulled?

And how is it an offence when the Police have stated there is no case to answer? The messages may have been offensive to Mr Sachs but no law was broken. You twittle on about it being illegal yet you have yet to answer how this was different to prank calls made by other DJ's. They were taking the mickey, they did not sit down, pre-meditated and decide they were going to phone Andrew Sachs to really upset him. They didn't get nasty, just inappropriate. Sachs got over it very quickly, why can't you?
