BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

So, which of the Sky Sports channels will F1 be booted off to when the football season is with us?

£480/year is more than some of us can afford to pay, especially when all we want to do is watch one race every two weeks, half of which we can see on FTA...

I am sure it will end up in Pubs etc and you can watch it later on BBC rather than live...

The BBC needed to save some money and a deal with Sky has acheived that, better half for free than none?

Paying for it isn't an issue. But being force to buy a subscription on standard channels, then on top of that the sports channel at a cost of £61 a month. Yeah I ain't willing to pay that.

However many of us would be willing to pay on demand through sky player or iplayer at a more reasonable cost.say £5-10 a race.

This ^^

Luckily most races are on at a time when the football isnt on anyway. But I'd imagine if there was a clash then the F1 would be shown on Sky Sports 2/HD 2. To be honest there is very little difference between the channels anyway, its not really a similar system to say the BBC where BBC 2 is perceived inferior to BBC 1

Because the only show football on sky sports 1?

And what difference does it make if they show it on SS1 or SSN?

Yep I would be more than happy to pay per race, just not £61.
£5 a race would be fine, I would probably even stretch to £10.

PPV for mainstream sports will NEVER happen. If you PPV for a race, how far do you go? Football ppv for a match? Same with Rugby, cricket etc. It will just never happen. You will pay for it all, or nothing.

The best thing about F1 on the TV currently is the BBC coverage and build up. I think it works extremely well. I have the full sky HD package but I'm very worried about Sky's coverage. They do offer a great deal of sport but all the pre-match and post match coverage is weak and designed for idiots. I can't imagine this being any different for F1. The quality of the BBC's coverage will surely deteriorate with only showing half the races live.

The BBC could save a fortune on te team they send! They send a team to cover practice ffs!

They only need brundle and croft covering all he racing/quali/practice
Kravitz and Mckenzie track side
Jake and someone like AD else for the preshow.
there's me saved what 5 on air talent salaries and flights, meals, accommodation without even trying.

I already have Sky, but it's still going to cost me an additional £20/pm to watch F1.

That said, it's probably cheaper than going to the pub to watch it.

Boss just came up with a genius idea. He's got the full Sky jobber (couple of HD boxes, all the channels, phone etc) and said for a fee he'll get a slingbox and stream it for us. Reseller!

Not really. I don't want to watch half a season and some highlights of the rest, it makes the whole thing far less enjoyable. I'll probably just watch BTCC or something. A better option would be for FOM to set up a live streaming service on their own website. I don't mind something being subscription-based, but not at what works out at £30+ for a race weekend, requiring the purchase of a full service from Sky for which I will use one channel every two weeks at best.

I agree it's unlikely to happen, but it's not a new system. Boxing and wrestling use the system.

I would rather have none. I don't see the point in just having HALF the races? Plus, these are going to be the boring half anyway. I really hope Sky fails hard with this one.

Pub + Radio 5 Live :)

And the pubs are open at 6am for the round the world races?

Answer: No they aren't, and who would anyway at that time of the day even if they were?

If it goes to sky I will loose interest.

That or I will download the coverage.

Just priced up a Sky package, £50 a month to just watch F1? Not a chance I'll be paying that.
