LOL what a **** - he told the team bosses it would be a full length replay, yet hes taken credit of the idea for the BBC to provide an hour long extended highlights programme instead - which is it Bernie?

**** F1

personally think they could have kept it, why are they keeping channels like bbc3 which seem to exist solely for showing endless repeats and isnt even on all day and according to this article costs about 115million a year to run, if they cant afford to keep a global sporting event, how can they justify that.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jun/09/scrapping-bbc3-off-the-agenda

Its not just F1 that will suffer, supposedly they are dumbing down documentary / wild-life programming to make it appeal to a wider audience, to help justify the cost (try and increase viewers, more $$$ from advertising)

I think I'd prefer if sky put it on PPV. Say £5 for a race weekend. It would be better than paying an extra £20 odd a month to subscribe over a year just for several races a year.

You might, but those of us with Sky Sports will rightly say why on earth should we pay more?

He siad it in one sentence, then back peddled one the 2minutes before and the two minutes after, and said it's highlites and he would prefer highlites. It is. Obviously in the contracts.

Heh. If it is highlights then we can iPlayer the intro, download the sky coverage and then iPlayer the after bits and the forum (if they keep that of course )

So until the actual details of this contract come out we still don't know exactly what we are getting?!

I cant see them conducting a F1 forum after a highlights programme - at end of day they have to downsize the operation to afford the coverage theyve kept...

I've been really enjoying the BBC coverage this year, its been excellent. In the past I usually just watch the highlight, but now i record the whole practice, and race programs, and I love the pre-race build up and post race chat, and the forum give your a real feel for what its like to be there. The Monaco forum was brilliant, with everyone getting thrown into the Red Bull pool.
Even my wife is happy to watch the coverage, so it must be good.

I've managed to put off getting Sky for ages, going to pubs or mates houses for football or catching a stream online. But now if F1 is going as well, then I might just have to take the plunge..... shame though.

agreed -ant and crofty on the practice give a real technical insight which I've really enjoyed. I also enjoy all the coverage of the race, and often watch the forum on iplayer..

Damn you BBC, I was really enjoying the coverage.

The BBC have got a lot of people in to watching F1 from what I've seen, a lot more friends will watch the race show now since it's been on BBC.
It's nice of them to kick every single one of the new and old fans in the face, and kick dirt on them whilst their down.

Is this all because of the olympics that they are doing this?

Probably... The olympics are just a joke the amount they've cost the country.. i know more people that watch the f1 than have ever watched the olympics.

As big of an F1 fan as I am that is plain not true; the olympics will draw a HUGE audience many times what f1 brings in. It is, afterall, niche programming, in all honesty.
