Plus we talk to Ben Gallop, Head of F1 at the BBC and Bernie Ecclestone about the BBC/Sky F1 rights announcement. All at 21:30 on 5 Live...

Definitely!

If you don't want to watch a bunch of men kicking a bit of leather around, or running about with a leather shape under their arm, or hitting small balls with sticks or bats...
What else does Sky Sports offer?

I understand that, but Sky in general offers HD channels, Sky+, etc.

Either way, you're going to have to pay for it in future, or put up with a poor quality stream.

I wish the football was all on the BBC and free, but it isn't, and I want to watch it, so I pay for it.

Granted if you have a Virgin setup it's a bit of a pain, but that is exactly why Sky bought it.

New F1 Deal Explained by Ben Gallop, Head of F1 at the BBC.

Doesn't talk about deferred broadcasts, but extended highlights  Lots of other excuses about saving money and how really it's a good thing

Edit: oops just spotted that the article was posted at lunch time so nothing new.

Sorry if this has been mentioned already (long thread is long) but will the radio broadcast stay as is for all the races?

Sky's HD channels and + service are worthless to me.

I'll opt for no F1 at all, and just checking the race results now and then... Seems to work for folk with the football.
The sport can decide if it was worth the reduced UK viewing figures.

Edit: Also, I assume you get football more than 19/20 times a year from your Sky Sports package?

RE: football, depends who you support and how fanatical you support them.
If you support a mid table or lower PL team you probably only get to see your team some 10-15 times on Sky sports + a few on ESPN.
If you don't watch any other teams games then it works out pretty crappy value

Guy on 5Live pretty much confirmed what i've been saying all along.
If it wasn't for this deal then the BBC wouldn't have any F1 at all, because it simply cannot afford it.

In that sense, 10 is better then 0 for a lot of people.

Why do they even bother lying?
The BBC doesn't give a **** about the sport, they can't wait to get rid of it.

Edit: You actually believe a word he's saying? He's obviously going to put this spin on it.
BBC... Try getting rid of some the crap on BBC3 and 4.

Ugh... The Bernie interview. Even worse.
"they'll not just be doing stuff during the race, but before and after"

What? Bernie, you mean like the BBC currently do now?

Yes, but couldnt ITV have done the other half, or all of the races?

I bet they saw the fact BBC couldnt afford it to get loads of money from sky, rather than taking less money and showing it on itv..

Its a sad day for the sport.
The BBC didn't just bring it to the masses, they gave us a show that could be enjoyed by all. They made us care for the sport. You could excuse the boring races thanks to the great coverage. The BBC were a credit to F1

I could never see Sky giving the same dedication to the sport.

I've got no hard feeling for BBC. The problem is with f1 and or sky and the contract.

How ca weber more coverage?

We already have all the FP, qauli and race, as well as warmup and forum,

No they can't bring more camera angles, everyone gets the same feed, unless there are more feeds that the BBC red button doesn't cover.

I would rather Sky then ITV, being honest.
Sky is worth whatever the cost over the crap that was ITV.

Bernie pretty much confirming, extended highlites identical to the ones on BBC at the moment from past seasons.

Prefer the highlites, wtf. No you don't. That's what the contract mandate. You know full well sky would pull out. And you would be forced to give f1 to one of the free channels at a substantially reduced cost.

Jesus, from Bernie's interview it just sounds like he doesn't give a ****. Like he finds the races boring?
I'd prefer the highlights... :|

personally think they could have kept it, why are they keeping channels like bbc3 which seem to exist solely for showing endless repeats and isnt even on all day and according to this article costs about 115million a year to run, if they cant afford to keep a global sporting event, how can they justify that.

I think they occasionally show Eastenders on BBC 3 so they absolutely MUST keep that. IT IS ESSENTIAL! We need as much Eastenders as possible.
