BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

I don't understand the silly hate for Sky, they aren't really that expensive and the service is absolutely excellent.

If you want nice things, you have to pay for them. I know it's nice to have had it for free but times are changing, unfortunately.

Yes it is a good service. But not everyone will use it. Therefor you aren't paying for all the other channels, you would be paying purely for F1, that makes it extremely expensive.

I understand that it's expensive JUST for F1 but at least you can get your broadband thrown in and other decent channels in HD. There are other benefits, or just watch more TV... :p

It'll be better when ALL of the F1 is on it.

Bernie : "For sure there are going to be a lot more people viewing, and a lot more opportunities for people to view, so from that point I'm very happy."

How many people is he under the impression have sky sports but no access to BBC 1?

If the only reason to have Sky is to watch F1 then what ******* use is the Sky package when there isn't a race weekend?
If you're not interested in any other sport other than F1, what ******* use is the Sky Sports package every weekend there isn't a race?

My life doesn't revolve around the television, I certainly can't be doing with urinating money down the drain.
I'll prefer to join the switch off brigade in the hope that it causes problems for the sport.

Surely though we are only one of the markets that F1 is broadcast to, so I don't expect the sudden drop in UK figures to affect F1 teams a great deal, Germany currently have both terrestrial and PPV coverage, and it seems to work there, I suspect it will carry on working here too, I'm not happy but we don't have much choice unfortunately, luckily I already subscribe to sky for the numerous other sports, but if I didn't I wouldn't sign up just for F1.

It is (for me at least), more a hatred for the fact that I would have to spend 2/3 of a month's wage on 20 lots of 1.5 hour programmes (although if the coverage was good enough, I'll admit that I would then watch the extra sessions - if it wasn't at this price!). My broadband is already part of the cheap deal on the phone line we have, the only thing I watch on TV is F1 (which is why we no longer have Sky), so it does get me rather annoyed that I'm facing the prospect of shelling out either £500 to watch the full season, or being left only able to watch half of it and some highlights. I'm not the only person who feels this way, either. If Sky allowed you to build more finely-tailored packages, I'd be a little bit more understanding, but like many people I simply cannot justify spending that much on 30-40 hours of entertainment per year.

remember people you can get sky sports 1 and 2 on virgin media and topup TV as well as on sky, still cost's though

As always, money talks.

I certainly won't be getting Sky Sports just for F1. I'd sooner give up on F1 than give Sky even more money.

Considering 80%ish of the staff in f1 come from the UK, and we have two top drivers, it's pretty shocking the way they've been treated.

How are they going to get the new generation of engineers interested, if most don't even watch the sport?

Now that's interesting, how much on topup tv?
£30pm - though I havent heard great stories about them when you try to cancel - think theres also a minimum term and obviously you need a Freeview box that has a CAM slot

I wanted to ask this before but didnt have the guts as its a very long term effect which some will say is an over-reaction, though I cant see how present F1 staff would be in the sport without such influences as F1 on FTA TV.

combine this with the silly little turbo engines and all the green power crap they are pushing, its bye bye F1 in this country as a popular sport I feel.

£29.99 a month for just two channels on top up tv.
Might as well go the sky package again.

Yeah, it really doesn't help. It's actually cheaper to get the Sky online package, I think (last time I checked, you could get the sports on their own if you went online-only), but that's still expensive as it is.

If the number of engineers going through drops, it doesnt bother me too much as It's exactly where Im aiming to get (starting my degree in sept)...

Having said that, I'd much rather F1 was popular and free to air! We want BBC!

This is exactly what I was thinking today.
It won't be more people viewing, will it? There isn't like there is a legion of SKY viewers out there to whom BBC1 is an unknown beast, just waiting to be seduced into the world of F1.

I'd be paying a lot of money for features I did not want or need. I watch as little television as possible and F1 is the only sport I follow.

I imagine the same is the case for a huge number of fans.

Definitely!

If you don't want to watch a bunch of men kicking a bit of leather around, or running about with a leather shape under their arm, or hitting small balls with sticks or bats...
What else does Sky Sports offer?
