BBC possibly to drop F1 coverage...

I know a local pub that often does the f1, and the football on dual screens.

Last time I was there they even had the audio, but then one was FTA and the other on sky. Unless they have dual sky boxes then I can't see that continuing either :(

You call that a comparison of the discussion in this thread? If you believe that you're just proving my point regarding the ratings when the switch takes place.

Although since this service was almost 10 years ago and very different to what is happening now we cannot use that information.

That will never happen - unless Sky get 1000's (if not millions) of new subs just from F1 fans , which is highly unlikely

Best hope is that every other week figures / audience size will drop through the floor and the sky advertisers will know straight away why they arent getting the viewers expected

Just correcting you on "F1 has never been on PPV"

It has. I know that it tanked, but my god it was a great service. I was one of the few subscribers.

doubt its ever going to happen as there is not enough races each year, hard to attract an audience as its not exactly popular, how many people even wear f1 clothing outside? i would feel embarassed to unless i was going to see it at a track....
bernie seriously needs to go and the teams need someone who comes across as likeable and doing the best for the sport to run it rather than someone whos seen as taking money away from the sport , charging silly premiums that tracks cant afford , trying to go where the money is even if it ******* off the real fans who dont want to see races in a bland boring desert on a track thats crap for safety reasons with mile wide run off areas made out of tarmac

F1 never going to be popular aslong as bernie keeps selling it as a sport for the social elite or the rich oil sheikh who wants to have his own private race on his own private track so show off ooh look at me im so rich i can buy an f1 race

I've got a mercedes team polo shirt from when my parents went to Bahrain and brought it back.

I don't support them but I'm not embarressed to wear it. Just like a football top or anything else with a load of advertising on it tbh.

@ Concorde.. They've removed the link to the blog from the front page of the sport site. Funny that.

It means Sky (or whichever ISP you use) have put their own equipment into your local phone exchange, meaning it doesn't rely on the BT network and generally is much better.
 
Great news. F1 on BBC was clearly financially unsustainable, I'm looking forward to seeing as good, if not better on Sky, probably with a similar (but now higher paid!) team.
 
Very dissapointed with the BBC. If only there was a way to stop paying the license fee I would as after this revelation it's just 12 episodes of Top Gear a year that I watch on BBC. £145 for 12 hours of Top Gear seems a bit of a waste. Quality programming? Pah. The BBC stopped doing quality programming years ago. Apart from F1 and TG it's just rubbish.

For me £20 a month extra to watch 1 race on Sky is just not worth it. I'm not into Football and the sports I do enjoy sometimes I just doubt I'd take the time to sit and watch.

It wouldn't be so bad if they put it on SS1 or SS2 and always had it there but you can guarantee they'll switch it around so you have to get the full package.

If they did a PPV option then I might be interested £5 or so per race weekend, £10 for HD or something.

Anyway I seldom get to see a race live so will go back to grabbing the Sky races off 'TheBox'. If anyone needs an invite, trust me, I've got 9.

I have always viewed F1 as quite a middle class sport. I know a lot of people who watch F1 and hardly any of them have Sky as they think it is a bit chavvy.
