Some decent choices, but only a handful in my opinion who have achieved some truly amazing things. For me its close between Carl Froch and Rory McIlroy.

A little disappointed that Sam Burgess has been overlooked this year. He's been ripping up the NRL for a few years now, winning the grand final in his final year with a broken cheekbone.

Choices are:

  • Gareth Bale
  • Charlotte Dujardin(?! hmmmm, just no)
  • Carl Froch
  • Kelly Gallagher & Charlotte Evans (very impressive stuff)
  • Lewis Hamilton (again, just no, F1 isn't a sport, its rich boys go-karts, whoever has the fastest car wins)
  • Rory McIlroy (amazing run of victories over the year, including the Open and US PGA)
  • Jo Pavey
  • Adam Peaty
  • Max Whitlock
  • Lizzy Yarnold (again impressive gold for a nation who really doesn't excel, for obvious reasons, at winter sports)

Are people really that hot on Froch?

Not a big golf fan but mcilroy has been incredible this year. Hamilton is the first british multiple time world champion since jackie stewart's third in '73. And Froch beat... george groves? Nothing against the guy, I'm a huge boxing fan and a Froch fan, but his achievement seems a bit tame in comparison.

I'd go for Rory, with Hamilton 2nd, if it were me choosing.

Love Froch, but he's not done enough by winning a couple of domestic fights against a young pretender. However much I enjoyed and appreciated the events. If he'd gone out and beaten another champion like Andre Ward, Golovkin, or stepped up to LH and faced down one of the badasses there, like Kovalev, maybe Hopkins, then I'd be more in favour.

Not sure any of the others can make a case.

Lewis Hamilton only had to beat Nico Rosberg. He also has zero personality and whines at his team over the radio whenever things aren't going his way. Rory's achievement is much more impressive IMO, but I've no idea if he is devoid of personality too like Hamilton.

The rest won't get a look in.

Jo Pavey.

Achieving what most thought could not be achieved at her age.
Mutliple medals this year, toppping the rankings against the worlds best.

Massive appeal to the average Joe's to get off the couch.

Massive appeal to women who have had kids to show they can go back to the things they enjoy as the weird and odd stigma is that they cannot do these things after giving birth. Nonsense.

Done it all off her own back, through hard work, determination and grit.

Oh, and also, she has a lovely personality. And it's a personality award.

Lewis is a an amazing driver, super talented. But let's face it, he is a stuck up little **** with no personality.
