BBC to end Formula 1 television contract early

I don't think you will see Jake presenting the shows, he's too busy presenting football on BT and spending time with his family, he doesn't have time to be jetting off around the world. He might do some sort of studio based program or F1 specials.

He may prefer jetting around the globe to getting wet and cold watching live football.
Andi.

Are Channel 4 not going to do an 'at the track' broadcast for those races they don't have live, like BBC did? The BBC also broadcast their race coverage (excluding the wrap around show) to other countries live, so even though thy weren't on TV here, they still produced a full show at the track, so there was no savings in cost there.

Will the Channel 4 coverage be studio based?

Many other countries used the BBC commentary so I wouldn't be surprised if they're on site rather than in a studio. No studio based commentary has ever compared to being there.

I guess they are not allowed the first race on C4? Most interesting one of the season tbh.

They didn't choose it. The way the split works is that the BBC (and now C4) choose two races they can show, then Sky pick two to have exclusively, and so on until the season is divided. The rule on what can be picked is that neither party can pick three consecutive races. So what has happened is that the terrestrial partner has had to pick Britain and the last race of the season to ensure they have home interest and in a tight season the deciding of the WDC, then Sky have picked the season opener in their first draft.

I think he was 'released' by the BBC :-) It happened when his F1 show went part time.
Andi.

He chose to leave the F1 show when he was offered the BT contract. It was also about spending more time with his family as I think he has a couple of young kids.

He won't be back on the F1 show on Channel 4, he's just being linked to it as the company who have won the contract is one he owns a share in (with DC).

Yeah but to also not have Canada or Brazil or Japan is a real shame. Sky wouldn't have blocked them from all of those.

I wouldn't mind if you just get the race and no preshow for the others
I don't watch live anymore anyway. Sunday lunch time isn't ideal tbh and not worth sitting in front of the TV for what isn't a spectacle any more

If can't see all the races live I won't watch any live

why do people STILL keep coming on here to say they wont be watching the sport? Good, great... make yourself a medal.

If it's not a "spectacle" to you then why the hell would you want to watch it recorded? What shred of difference does that make - if you don't enjoy it you don't have to bloody well watch it!

I'll be watching all of them, live and absolutely loving it. Cheers.

I might go and buy every dvd of star treck ever made - i can't stand it, it's not a spectacle but I thought I'd just torture myself for the heck of it. Jebus wept.

...

Right. Everyone has something to bring to this conversation. Maybe you should bring silence? ;):p

Newsflash smr - not everyone likes the current state of F1. Some of them are going to post comments that may well be critical of the state that it's in.

Deal with it :)

I'm sure that Honda have moved things forward. The two questions are:

- how much; and
- how much has everyone else moved forward

I think the other teams have been working pretty hard in the off-season too.

If true, and I'm not sure how good these journos are, any gains like that would be huge. I think McLaren have the most to gain out of all the other teams anyway - if we're in the top 5 on the grid at Melbourne that'd be immense.
