BBC tracking me?

i'm not sure on this but i was talking to my step mum about this kinda stuff a year ago when i moved out.

but i think if u use or have access to any BBC stuff, ie TV Radio Website, thats all classed as TV licences i think. Or if u have a ablity to connect to any of there services......

I think

The determining factor is the ability to watch a live broadcast.

Anything you watch online that is not live i.e. not being broadcast as you are watching it is outside the scope of the licence. It may still be subject to copyright protection but that is a different matter.

On the other hand, if you use a Slingbox to send out live TV material then you need a valid licence for the location where you are actually watching it, but even there some exceptions apply for watching on devices powered by battery, not mains.

If your PC has a TV Tuner then aren't you required to pay for a TV License?

Got any addons for firefox that could be going to the bbc?

Check who is trying to make a connection to who, if your pc is the source ip with bbc as the destination then it is firefox or some app trying to make the connection.

GSpace, FireFTP and Download Helper.

I don't go any where near BBC wehsites, online radio, etc.

No Radio, No TV Tuner.

I live on Internet, Books, Sex and Food. TV reduces the amount of sex you have :)

Also to see if you have a tv dont they sit outside your house with detectors to check for radio waves from a tv etc.

:Dthis always makes me laugh how would they know the radio waves:D were coming from your tv I have a lead connected to my kettle that picks up radio waves it just doesnt know what to do with them

The tv licence people get a notice from every retailer when you buy a tv then if you dont have one they send you a letter.
As for detector vans surley walking up to your front door and either looking through your window or waiting till you open your door and having a listen for a tv broadcast.

As for the op problem isnt it more likely to be spyware

As for a entering your house no one can without a warrant not bailiffs or police(unless life is in danger etc)

There would be no issue with TV licence if you could be bovered to pick up the phone and contact them. let them know that you don't have a tv. I told them that I had a tv and it was only used for playing dvd's and games consoles and that there is no antenna cable connected to my TV since then I haven't received any letters or anyone knocking on my door. its a 2 minute phone call.

which browser do you use?

if its mozilla then the "Latest Headlines" automatically connects to the BBC site to get a listing of the recent news articles.

any item that is capable of receiving tv channels requires a tv licence UNLESS its purely battery operated

so a battey powered vt requires no tv licence? you sure on that? wonder what woudl happen if those batteries come out with a 30 year lifetime. will be interesting then.;)

if you can get through to them that is... I have tried before several times and ended up waisting about an hour of my time waiting to get through to someone... why should I waist my time on their assumption?

That could be it... I check out how to stop it :D

Lol this is just funny....

Anyway, if you really want to know.. ppl have just started to cotton on. Your PC has opened a HTTP connection to the bbc news website, just in the same way as opening a browser and typing the URL in yourself. If you dont have a web browser open then as ppl have said, it will be a plugin/utility/news reel installed on your PC that is making the requests on your behalf. Check your browser plugins or try HijackThis

they have detector vans or handheld detector equipment that can detect the frequencys produced by your tv while it translates the signal from a high frequency to a lower frequency, in order to produce a picture and audio we can see and hear. They can just about pin point the location of your tv, so thats how they know if ure using tv without a licence.

well thats how they are supposed to work

they most probily dont even exist, ive never seen a 'tc detector van'

so they just have a list of adresses without tv licenecs and assume everyone uses a tv.

They can't pinpoint the location of a tv, you'd need to use triangulation to do that. When everyone on the street is using a tv at once thats a little difficult. ;) Plus the detection equipment they are rumoured to use picks up radiation emitted by a crt, not lcds or plasmas.

The amount of money a detector van would cost would not be worth it. The evidence can't even be used in court.
