Be Broadband

Be automatically use interleaving and you have to ask to have it disabled.
It provides some extra resiliency to errors, and the difference it makes to your ping is fairly marginal.

Fairly marginal

I wouldnt say that going from a interleaved 50ms ping to a fastpath 20-30ms is fairly marginal matey, especially if your a serious online gamer.

I've been able to get this for well over a year now and I still haven't made the move. Been on Nildram since 2001 and generally it has been rock solid (router on 24/7 for 7 years - the same one incidentally! SpeedTouch 510v4 you are a beast :D)

Heard up and down reports of Be and to make matters worse I can't even get the full 8MB on standard ADSL so I can't see the jump making things any better - I still can't see me getting 8 in total.

You get a % of the theoretical maximum depending on your distance from the exchange and quality of phone line etc... so if BE can offer you a higher theoretical maximum than 8mb ( which they should ) then you would get more than 8!

a lot of people that live far from the Exchange still get 10-12mb from BE connections :)

If you were getting a 50ms ping before when maybe you just played on crappy servers :P

I went from a 30-15ms average really. Some servers will get me down to as low as 5ms to the server but it varies on the host etc.

Its nice to have the lower pings but even if you play a lot of FPS games online etc, I doubt it makes that much difference. Most games these days have client side prediction etc so it doesnt make you more accurate or anything like that imo :|

I was previously on plusnet before moving to Be and used to sync on ADSL Max at about 3.3mbs, which was pretty rubbish.

I moved to Be so I wasn't limited by how much I could download and didn't expect much of a speed increase, but I did get a minor increase; I now sync at about 5.1mbs which is a little better but still not great.

Customer service is all based in India - but for once it isn't a problem, the staff keep to there promise are overly helpfull and don't mess you around.

I'm almost 100% sure that their customer service staff are eastern european..bulgaria or slovenia or some such...certainly not indian..the girl I spoke to when signing up was called helena and the 2 tickets I put in were dealt with by a bloke called nikolai or some such

I am sure I could discern between a mumbai and a sofia accent on the phone!

I was being dealt with a few indian gentlemen myself so they must have several over diferent time zones.

Anyway migrated away from Bethere after just shy of 4 weeks.

When i signed up to be i got connected to India it took me 20 minutes to tell the person my details.

And i couldn't stand the Indian music when i was on hold.

But i held on and got from £30 a month with AOL at 4.5Mb to £18 a month with Be at 5.8Mb

Been with BE for half a year now I think and had nothing but trouble.

Slow download speeds, meant to get around 14mb/s but lucky if I get 6.
Constant disconnects
DNS issues
Router issues

Everytime I try asking them to fix it I get told to check my filters.

Great.

I have the same problems at the moment. In the beginning everything was fine and dandy, now I just get constant disconnects, router issues, and slow download speeds like you have described.

I'm gonna try a new router, if that doesn't work, I am out. I was on pipex before and never had this many issues (as much as it kills me to admit that).

i think they may have changed, when i first signed up a year ago i spoke with them on several ocassions as my previous homeowner never cancelled their BB. Just stopped paying the directdebit.

So my order process wasnt a simple one, and the people i spoke to were always indian, both sales and support.

Anyway, last week i managed to loose all the static ip settings on my router after having had to factory reset it after braking it due to messing about

i had to ring them to get my settings back, and the bloke i spoke to had an eastern european accent. Ive only ever rang mid evenning, so not a time zone thing

Considering that unless you've got an exceptional line it's coming at the cost of increased packet loss, it's hardly a major change.

Is there any reason to choose Be rather than 02? Or are they basically the same ISP?

I have a 02 mobile and as such I can get £5 off.

Sorry to derail the thread but there are all ready multiple topics about Be/o2.

Thanks in advance. :)

same thing i went with o2 its just the same as BE!

I've been with Be for about a year now. Can't fault them at all, they have been absolutely brilliant - so much better than BT.

Sync has never dropped below 19mbps, usually getting 22.5mbps and I've probably had 10 disconnects total. Router isn't very good feature wise but it hasn't caused any problems.

How funny! :D

I am reading this thread and wondering what the heck people are saying?

I been with BE for several months and they are great!

I've not had any speed issues, I get 7Mbps download and 1Mbps upload, the Be-Box is very cool, never crashes, wireless works well and I was suprised at the range of the WIFI.

The customer service is fine, dunno where people are getting this India thing from? as said their call centre is in Europe and they all got cool names like Vlad, Gregor, Angel etc

I have switched three other people over to BE also and none of them are having any issues.

Recently the DNS business has been a bit substandard but thanks to the folks here on OcUk forums I learns how to TELNET into the BE-Box and manually configure it to use the Open-DNS servers, great stuff.

Online gaming is great although the Be-Box needs some tweaking to avoid lag-spikes and disconnects in STEAM Games (instructions on BE forums). My Average ping on mosy severs is 15ms, 99% of the time I am the first person loaded on a map which is cool. :D

Be have been doing some maintenance work I think the past few weekends because I have lost service at about 3am in the morning. Once I wake up next day everything is back to normal. This has happened twice.

I'm pretty nOOby at most internet tech, configuring stuff etc but I know what a good service is and I think be is tremendous value for money.

The last person I signed up didn't get free connection though, are they still doing that offer for people now or?

Sometimes you'll need to submit a ticket just to give them a gentle prod. I've recommended/referred a few friends and it can take a few months for the credit to appear.

Just got my internet sorted today :D I'm getting a ping between 9 and 12 on CZ and that's WITHOUT Fastpath!! :D

This is Awesome :D

17meg down 1.3meg up :)
