So the colony doesn't benefit from the lone moles sacrifice?

EDIT
I've just been looking up Altruism and from the definition on dictionary.com I got the following;"the principle or practice of unselfish concern for or devotion to the welfare of others. Animal Behavior. behavior by an animal that may be to its disadvantage but that benefits others of its kind, as a warning cry that reveals the location of the caller to a predator".

Now that type of behaviour is exactly what I was saying!

I see. However, your original sentence:

I was under the impression that it had been shown that in order for everyone to succeed as a group/species then everyone should act in a way to benefit the group.

Is technically incorrect because it implies that animals help each other for non-selfish reasons. I shouldn't have been so pedant, sorry.

I didn't mean it to imply that at all and not sure how you'd read it that way. I made no mention of motive other then the success of the majority. It was more in relation to peoples actions in society rather then ants/moles etc but after reading into selfish gene stuff I see that this follows the same model. You're right it is pretty fascinating!

It's a **** ad and not in the least bit funny, what's more .......... **** it! I promised myself that I wouldn't post in this thread;; damn it!!

Consenting adults can do whatever they like behind closed doors - it's no-one else's business imo. But when they start doing it in public it becomes everyone's business. People were right to complain about this and Heinz were right to withdraw the ad.

pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

Since you have posted then I might as well ask you the obvious question (or anyone else who wants to answer). If it were a man and a woman sharing a quick kiss before one went off to work would you be as against it?

People, who cares about the finer points of whether being gay is biologically correct etc..., just enjoy the advert and fume over the small minded idiots who complained.

things these days ay.....now theve taken away the classic film "zulu" on christmas day..they used to air it every year for the past 10 years or so and now theve taken it away....racial discriminiation....what is this world coming to!

not read the research which found that in brain scans gay men had brain shapes similar to straight women and gay women had brain shapes similar to to straight men then?

If it is not a choice then it is some physical and chemical difference and due to it's detrimental nature (from a survival etc point of view) it would probbably be classed as an illness.

Illness is a state of poor health, so you can't class homosexuality as an illness anymore than you can a different eye colour. It doesn't affect the organisms chances of survival or the species as a whole. You could say it's a defect, but it doesn't really fit the definition of illness.

From a survival point of view, if the human population doesn't stop breeding, it'll cause even more damage ;)

Hell, homosexuality might even be a roundabout cure to the world's problems :p

Exactly! being "Gay" is promoted by some as "normal" so assuming the rest of the population become "normal" i.e. "Gay", then we will all die out.

Hmm..............

Why does normal have to mean the same? It is normal to have blue eyes, it is normal to have brown eyes for example. Normal doesn't have to mean "everyone does it".

It's got no homosexual connotations as far as I'm concerned. It's a deli mayo that's being advertised as such, by the woman of the house turning into a NY Deli chef owing to the fact that she is applying this deli mayo onto sandwiches, and just kisses her husband good bye. I'm not a homophobe though I don't find necessarily "right", however I wasn't offended by that, I thought the most offensive bit of it was on how corny it was! It honestly wasn't that bad - I've seen worse on children's tv such as neighbours and hollyoaks. Heck 10-15 years ago TV had a lot more contentious stuff on it.

What's happening to this world? PC is really going mad these days it seems :/
