Beef Jerky

Love beef jerky. Mum has a friend who lives in Mission, British Columbia, and near them is a fantastic meat and cheese farm shop. They sell the best beef jerky I have ever had. No word of a lie, they had two full platters of the stuff, stacked half a foot high, and the shop was that busy that by the time we got to the front, they had to bring out more!

Love Jerky brought 5kgs or so back from the states. Nearly gone NOM.

Pity most of the stuff is full of so much crap though.

Did find a site that was nearly just all beef, expensive mind.

Yuk it's dog food :(

I like beef jerky and a local shop sells this particular brand at a reasonable price, so I buy it quite often. I've offered it to my coworkers and dogfood is one of the more flattering descriptions given by those who've tried it. I'm pretty sure that most dogs would like it, but that's not saying much because most dogs like almost anything edible.

Wild West Jerky is made only a few miles away from me. I often see their van parked at the side of the road near to the A1.

EDIT: Or it might be a different Jerky company am thinking of...

Real great, cheers. Just went n ordered some jerky. Although i get mine from British Beef Jerky.

I love beef jerky, Been waiting for that guy on Dragons Den to get his into the supermarkets to try it as supposed to be a lot better then Wild West.

With the mad hair? he used to post on a forum I used, his stuff is fantastic but not cheap. I'll find the address for you when I'm sober...

Best jerky I've ever had, the range of meats and flavours is phenomenal. When they get the online shop up and running again it really is worth a purchase. Also if you keep an eye out they do various festivals, country shows and historical events and it really is fascinating watching the preparation and production in a proper way.

That's the bloke I was talking about, should have read the whole thread. Mart posts now and again on the "Downsizer" forum as "Bloke on the telly" - seriously good stuff. If you want quality, buy from him. If you want quantity, go elsewhere!

No ta. Massively inferior stuff to Biltong direct from SA.

Indeed.

My Mrs uses a place called Bokke foods, they are expensive but the stuff is just like the biltong I remember eating in SA as a kid. My old man gets a strip of Biltong delivered, I think he likes being all John Wayne cutting bits off with his knife.

Richard the founder of Wild West has mentioned to me a few things as he has read this thread and wanted to confirm some things. :)

People have mentioned Texas Joe's here, and actually this is produced in Scotland along with Wild Wests Jerky. Wild West sell it for Joe. It is zero added sugar and low salt and higher in protein as a result of being dried more. Richard personally doesn't think it's as nice but it is down to personal taste. It's available in Sainsbury's now for those who want to try it (as of last week). :)

Also, the whole dog food thing, well I suppose it does look like dog chews and may not look nice, but it is really tasty I was pleasantly surprised as it doesn't look nice, but I love it. :)

I guess there will be better or higher quality of Jerky in some ways, but I'd say the packets I have are more consumer, as I just buy it from the supermarket with my lunch, and it is still lovely.

It looks like a Marmite thing you either love it or hate it. :p

Do you know if the Texas Joe stuff is branded as his?

Sainsbury's have been selling jerky here for a few months but it's Sainsbury's branded.

I was really disappointed when I tried jerky. I love beef and was expecting it to be dry and tough, but it didn't resemble beef in any way. It was shiny and chewy and tasted nothing like what I was expecting.

This is why most of the jerky they sell in supermarkets is rubbish, it seems more plastic than beef. Try making some yourself and you'll love it.
