Beef Jerky

I love jerky, once you've had homemade you'll never go back.

Agreed!

One of my favourite flavourings is just plain old Worcester Sauce.

Strips of steak/beef marinating with Worcester Sauce in a bag for 24 hours and then put in the dehydrator - delicious!

Better and cheaper than any beef jerky I've ever bought, with the added satisfaction of making it yourself.

A fantastic food for camping/hiking.

I used to buy these from Tesco etc but once I got the proper stuff from Biltong Direct there was no going back, stuff is amazing.

I also like how your phone is ringing in the background but this is WAY more important :D

Not ringing at all. That is my voicemail, however it is glitched as I do not receive voicemails, so it just stays red. :)

How does one know it tastes like/has texture like dog food, have they sampled both?

Maybe, I don't know. But it looks, feels and sometimes smells like some dog food. You can get jerky for dogs, e.g. http://www.feedem.co.uk/dog-c1/dog-.../davies-puffed-jerkys-dog-treats-100gm-p10380

Jerky is a common food substance for dogs and there isn't much of a tradition of human consumption in this country, so the association is understandable although mistaken...dogfood jerky is healthier because it has less salt :)

Well, OK, the main difference is which bits of cow it's made from. One dogfood jerky product page I've just looked at proudly proclaimed that the ingredient list was "100% beef gullet". That would probably be reassuring and appealing to a dog reading the page :)

EDIT: I was idling looking at petfood jerky variants and I found alligator jerky for dogs. Now I want to eat alligator jerky. But not the dog version.

I am a big biltong fan!

I like jerky but i think SA biltong is the way forward, it has replaced my crisps at the pub!

Any chance of whacking these in OCuk big orders over the tangtastic haribo? lol

Popped into Lidl this morning and looking at Reggae reggae sauce right next to it was Wild West Jerky - thought got to have some of that then saw next to that was Biltong jerky so had two of them -

The Biltong is like chewing slimy meat but Wild west is really good - On Hot and Spicy now.

99p for 25g pack

You wouldn't've thought this, but there is a fair amount of sugar added to beef jerky (the Jerky I got from Sainsburys anyway). I thought it tasted sweet when I tried it, then I looked at the sugar content. A bag or two eaten a day could put you on the road to diabetes methinks.

Just a FYI,
but the WildWest Jerky in the OP is also available at Lidel, so it might be a bit cheaper?

I bought some haven't tried it yet (and yes I forgot how much it was, sorry)

yes jerky is better than biltong. i shipped a load of biltong going on the love this post has for it and i wasnt that impressed. ended up throwing a fair bit of it away.

That's what put me off too. The jerky I tried is marinaded in molasses or something like that. I haven't seen any jerky that isn't heavily sweetened.

I like jerked meat, but I don't want it full of sugar. :)
