Beers of the World - Mk 5 *** RULES AND SIGNUP HERE ***

Glad you said about the foreign variations as my H entry was possibly going to be a beer called 'F*ck de kerstboom staat in de fik!!'.
It's Dutch should you wish to translate the name.

I think that's going to be quite a tricky round given we're in the middle of the year!

That was part of my thinking, but then nearly every category is middle of the year (compared to Xmas) so it wouldn't really matter.

The foreign name thing would take me a while to translate if everyone did it especially when I have a hangover on Sunday mornings. So any round that requires more detail or certain words to appear will not allow foreign wording.

Cheers for the clarification. I did a little stalking and found potentially the winning beer, but i'd have never got it in time :(

If people are trying to find out the brewery closest to me, there is a good chance of not matching with the theme. And they tend to do most of it in my local alehouse so my friends would have had it too.

I'm certainly interested in seeing what people enter as I like dark beers which I think is likely to be the most common entry.

I know it, had a few from there which were quite nice according to my history.

I have just realised that I haven't thought of a tie-breaker should 2 or more people enter a beer from the same brewery closest to me. And even then it could be the same beer.
Might go with first come, first served.

Would there be any opposition in shifting the entry time to say 2pm on Saturday? Saying we don't do the results until Sunday, midday on Saturday is a bit tight for entries. With the bonus point going out on Sunday, and me being unable to get to any good specialist beer shops before midday on Saturday it does limit my entries (no doubt saying that will mean no one will support it!)...

I'm happy to do this. I figured midday would give you all time to get the following week sorted. I don't check any until Saturday evening (provided I'm not in the pub) anyway.
Will update the cut off time for this week and subsequent weeks.

It’s just occurred to me that this evening is Eurovision. With next week being E, it would be an ideal week to have the subject being the winner of Eurovision….. Everybody gets the same notice and the same amount of time to find something.

I like it.
E for England is very easy to source so it makes it interesting. I'll update the main page for the theme

E - Eurovision - Enter a beer from the winning country or worst performing country (points, not performance). I'll even allow a beer the name of song from those countries whatever that maybe (I have no idea on this years entries as I haven't looked)

Seeing as its his suggestion, I'll award Feek a point for every country with a land border next to the losing country

Out of interest, how tenuous a link are we allowed for the Public Holiday?

Using this as an example as it's a local brewery and doubt anyone else would have it (Although they have none in stock anyway)

https://untappd.com/user/walsalldave/checkin/1019731066

It's called Spruce'd up and uses spruce needles which are typically what are used for Christmas trees. Similar to Moorhouses "Blonde Witch" which is loosely linked to Halloween?

Is that allowed? Or does it have to directly relate to a public holiday?

I would say the seasonal holiday has to be obvious, either in name or image. If the brewery promotes it as a seasonal special in the blurb on the can/bottle, then that is fine.
Hobgoblin would not work but they change their label around hallowe'en in which case it would then be acceptable as I think it has a pumpkin.
Another example of the beer you mention: https://untappd.com/user/Agravaine/checkin/1001177166. The image has santa hats which is fine. To me there is a clear difference so your example would not work but this one would.

I will say you are free to enter a tenuous link. If I can't see it then I will award 0 pts but would be happy to let the others judge it and change the result but its a risk you take as you may get 0 pts.

Also the other word-based rounds: "Mark", "King", "Queen", "Tea".

For example, Market Ale* and Teardown IPA* - are they considered to contain the words Mark and Tea?

*Not real beers

Your examples would be acceptable.

Think I've just found my entry for round X.
It's a chocolate stout and absolutely amazing.

Round X is going to be a hard one to judge I think depending on peoples idea of X rated content.

Oof, interesting. I've taken a risk this week also.

Really enjoying the random bonus point btw @Bickaxe, adds another dimension on top of your mates Untappd as well.

Thanks, glad this week isn't strongest ABV, would have to give everyone a bonus point.

Off to my local in a bit, they have a range of stouts in including the Brew York specials (Maple and Pecan this week). Problem is, in this weather I don't feel like drinking them.
