Belgian Grand Prix 2014, Spa-Francorchamps - Race 12/19

Maybe Lewis should have been quicker anyway, Rosberg mullered Lewis all weekend, his exits off the corners were unbelievably better.

Bus stop chicaine in Q3 - they were neck and neck yet Rosberg crossed the line much quicker. AD analysed this and showed that he was owning Hamilton on his exits.

If anything Lewis should have known Rosberg would be quicker in the race and should have left him room to get past him, and settled for second, that would have got a 1-2.

Ultimately, trying to stay ahead of a quicker driver has cost Lewis.

He was asked what he will do in Monza to avoid the incident again on the subject of him being able to trust Rosberg and he just said "I'll make sure I'm further ahead"... all well saying that but when you can't do it it's not really worth much.

Because all those drivers were great when not cheating as well, not being spanked silly in every match up with a team mate, literally every time. Hamilton has completely and utterly owned him, ...

You think winning an F1 title is just about pure speed?
History shows that this is definitely not the case.
A very important attribute is to work the political game, off track. Get the team on side. Also a driver must analyse the strengths and weaknesses of his main rival and driving accordingly.

When Mansell and Prost were at Ferrari, if Mansell was faster in practise/qualifying, Prost would get his mechanics swap the cars. If Mansell drove faster still (after the swap), Prost would get the cars swapped again. Prost would use any/all tactics at his disposal. He won 4 titles. Only Fangio and MSc have won more.

Vettel, also on 4 titles did some questionable things during his title winning years.

And lets talk about MSc.
MSc had a contract in place which ensured that he was No.1 and at anytime he could ask the No2 driver to move over. He took out D.Hill, when he went off the track and was about to retire. This resulted in MSc winning the title.

Senna also took Prost out and won the title.

I realise that some people on here dont like the German drivers or prefer the fast brute (which Hamilton is), but being a great F1 driver requires far more than just speed.

Personally, I am getting bored of Hamilton's interviews where he looks like he is about to cry. Is this acting or is his 'about-to-cry-face' genuine? He needs to man up and accept that he is up against an intelligent driver and deal with Rosberg's methods.

Ricciardo's not going to win the title. Well, unless he has a cracking rest of the season and both Rosberg and Hamilton fail to finish in the double-points final race... which is far from unlikely, but Mercedes won't allow them to continue bashing into each other from now until then and it really should be out of Ricciardo's reach come that final race... but if it is in his reach then it's potentially tasty given how divisive the Mercedes garage is likely to be by then.

I'm sure Mercedes will remember the McLaren-Mercedes implosion of 2007 though* and will ensure they aren't pipped at the death again.

Edit: Though if it gets any closer there is a touch of the 1999s about it though, nearly letting a rank outsider in to challenge towards the end.

* slight irony that Hamilton was involved in that too?

God damn it, I thought you were going to write a whole paragraph without mentioning how intelligent Rosberg is, and right at the end, you hit us with it, urgh, change bloody record, you take broken to a whole new meaning.

Whoever asked what price Ricciardo was for the WDC; he is 33/ with Ladbrokes.

Ricciardo isn't going to win this year. Yes, he's won three races but every single time he's won because of problem with Mercedes. In Canada, Hamilton failed outright and Rosberg lost the whole KERS system. In Hungary, Lewis was hamstrung by problems in quali and a terrible strategy call from Mercedes whilst Rosberg got nerfed by the timing of the safety car and some technical gremlins (combined with his inability to capitalise on the quality of the car). And in Belgium, Rosberg sabotaged the whole Mercedes team.

He may be the best of the rest right now but he only has a car capable of capitalising where the Mercedes mess it up not a car that can actually challenge them.

Agreed 100%.
Riciardo is the real deal.
He is beating Vettel who was voted by team principals as the best driver of 2013.

As much as we all love to hate on Helmut Marko, you have to admit he's done a pretty good job. Yes he's ruthless and if you cross him you know it, but his keen eye has produced the 4 time WDC Vettel, proved Ricciardo to be the real deal, and shown Kvyat justifies his early promotion to F1. Puts a lot of pressure on Max Versteppen to perform now.

Also, a side note, once again Rosberg lost a race he probably should have won by not being able to overtake people he should have breezed past!

Your anti Hamilton posts and lack of watching the actual events of what your posting about is getting old.

The Vulcan sounds amazing doesn't it :D

Vulcan normally is superb. Easily the best noise in the air. Especially when they turn up the 20201 Olympus engines and get that howl.

But, 216 litres of merlin engines in 2 Lancasters won out. Just an utterly beautiful noise.

Will have some comments about the race in a little while.

I saw it when I was washing my car on the drive one day, heard a strange whistling noise for like five minutes, thinking it was a strange sounding car on the motorway. Next thing I know the Vulcan comes howling over the house on a low flyby. I almost ran for cover, still sounds shivers down my spine thinking about. Amazing stuff.

That's true enough, balanced out probably by Scott Speed ;) I'd perhaps say Adrian Newey did more to create 4 times world champion Vettel than Marko though, but that's for another day ;):D

I imagine where a lot of Hamilton fans would feel annoyed would be because of the penalties he took for similar driving errors for things that were no more than racing incidents. Like Singapore 2011 when he clashed again with Massa.

It's quite interesting looking back at the old thread.
