Rossi and Lorenzo-esque dividing pit wall, with separate teams, and no sharing of data will fix it
If he does, does that not make him look like he can't work with team mates who are as competitive as him or won't defer to him? Devil's advocate there.there are now headlines that hamilton may quit merc...
I don't think Ricciardo will win the WDC this year but he's close enough to Lewis and on a good enough run of form that Mercedes might have to admit that for the rest of the season Lewis has to be Rosberg's rear gunner. If Mercedes do impose some sort of team orders, their priority will be to win both titles. If they do, surely they would see that Rosberg is 29 points ahead of Lewis AND 64 points ahead of Ricciardo. Hamilton is only 35 points clear of Ricciardo. Therefore Hamilton is at risk of being over taken by Ricciardo in the standings.Yeah Mercedes view was "we don't want to ruin the show" but we all knew the real reason was "we don't want the bad press like RBR had".
But to be fair to them they aren't in a position to really news to worry. So long as their drivers don't take both cars out of the race Mercedes are going to win both titles. Team orders favouring a driver usually arrows because a championship threat comes from another team. Yes Ricciardo is doing well, but he isn't going to win the WDC.
They could just say no team orders, but hold their 2015 contracts to ransom if they do anything stupid (no matter what the headlines say, neither driver is realistically considering leaving Mercedes).
I thought the point Rosberg was trying to prove was that he wouldn't yield to Hamilton's aggressive (albeit legal) defending like we saw in Bahrain and Spain.
If Lewis feels he can't trust Nico to race sensibly wheel-to-wheel he's likely to give him more room and potentially an advantage in the final few races.
All I have to say on this is that I'm sick and tired of F1. Been watching it since the 80s and have just about had enough.
It's all rules, regulations, politics and controversy, punctuated with an odd bit of decent racing now and then. As a fan, I just want to watch exciting, fair racing between drivers. Instead every single weekend is mired in controversy of some kind or another which overshadows the actual racing and usually leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of many fans when they feel a driver has got away with unsportsmanlike conduct or just plain cheating.
Pinnacle of motorsport? What a joke.
It was more than just a racing incident. How do you not see that?
The great scraps for the world championship are often contentious. While Rosberg was guilty of questionable reasoning and should have backed out of his move, he had attempted a legitimate, but optimistic passing bid and profited from it far more than he could ever have hoped. This is not the crime some make it out to be.

But what else can Mercedes do that really punishes Rosberg in the chase for the 2014 championship, given his now 29 point advantage? Only give Hamilton parts updates and leave Rosberg with current spec?
Maybe Lewis should have been quicker anyway, Rosberg mullered Lewis all weekend, his exits off the corners were unbelievably better.
Bus stop chicaine in Q3 - they were neck and neck yet Rosberg crossed the line much quicker. AD analysed this and showed that he was owning Hamilton on his exits.
If anything Lewis should have known Rosberg would be quicker in the race and should have left him room to get past him, and settled for second, that would have got a 1-2.
Ultimately, trying to stay ahead of a quicker driver has cost Lewis.
He was asked what he will do in Monza to avoid the incident again on the subject of him being able to trust Rosberg and he just said "I'll make sure I'm further ahead"... all well saying that but when you can't do it it's not really worth much.
Rosberg did not have much to lose, he either passes Lewis and gets more "street cred" for winning a wheel-to-wheel battle (for the first time this year, I think), or he affects both their races negatively (preventing Hamilton from closing the points gap).
Or he can play for the team, essentially lock up the Constructors Championship for Mercedes with another 1-2 finish and still retain a lead in the WDC going into the last seven races. As is, Red Bull gained 17 points on Mercedes where they should have lost 18.
I'm glad though they are taking a more standoff stance to things like that this year. Although part of me thinks if you wreck another drivers race like that a drive through should be given. The penalties had got a bit stupid though.
I think you've forgot that massa got a message to hold up Lewis anyway he can. And he did.
@smr use the ruddy QOUTE or multi QOUTE ....Jesus...
Will Big Ron buy Lewis back? Has Lewis got a get out clause?
