The carrier of the gearbox was cracked and fluids from somewhere, looked like oil, landed on a drivers visor. All I know is that the engine has gone back to the factory for inspection so I guess we'll find out the result this weekend..

Do you mean the TV director here? I'm not sure what race direction did to effect things. The coverage wasn't great, but thinking about it some more I think the biggest problem was DRS. While there was action nearly all of it was easy DRS assists cruising past without any real show of skill or strategy and no sign of battling.
Yes the tv director

Got to love this stuff from Ferrari. Maybe if your drivers didn't write off a minimum off 1 car per event you wouldn't be struggling financially?

Could also try designing an engine system that doesn't implode fairly regularly.

Clutching.

The commentators spent a lot of time talking about driver moves. Since I switched channels during the ad breaks and didn't always switch back at the right time I may have missed key information. Were they hinting that Hamilton is going to retire?

I think they’ll do that whilst Merc are struggling but Hamilton hasn’t indicated he wants to retire. Just easy headlines for them on a slow day mate. :)

Max’s visor tear off caused Leclerc to pit at the start? Sheesh those RB boys know every sneaky trick in the book ;)

I don't care about the front, I support alpine.
And there was loads of great battling in the mid field. Ocon did 2 double overtakes for example . There was stuff going on all the way through.

If you're a Hamilton supporter or only follow the front you definitely won't like this. And I'm guessing that's why the race got voted so low.

I can respect max and rbr for that drive. The reason no one battled was because they set that bar.

But yeah I loved it

Fair enough, but I've still rated races where Lewis has been nowhere quite highly earlier in the season.

I enjoyed the start of the race (even if Lewis did go out) as there was a lot going on, but i found it boring simply because within a few laps it was clear that it would be a RB one two with Max winning by a mile. RB seem to have sorted their reliability issues too so there wasnt even that to look forward to :p.

The only reason to stick around was to see what absurd thing Ferrari were going to do this time to **** over their drivers (and they didn't disappoint).

I didn't think it was terrible. I rated it a solid 5 (so decidedly average).

I don't think so, but they did seem to be like a stuck record talking about Alonso, Ricciardo and Piastri... I'd be stunned if Hamilton retired - Wolff has already suggested he's staying on next season - I can't see him being a driver that wants to go out with a whimper like this season.

That said if he thinks the car is going to be as poor next season you never know.

I don't think Lewis will retire. It's only all of his other work outside of F1 that might tempt him. How that man has time for all that I do not know. I only do an office job and I barely feel like I've got time for hobbies sometimes :p

At the end of the day, he had basically won 2021 with the second fastest car. One season out of the running does not mean it's worth chucking it all in. I know he's getting "older" but again, it's only one year since he basically won in 2021... Age isn't really going to be a factor here.

I think he'll go after next season, as you say he's got plenty of things going on outside F1, it feels like he's been dealt the rough hand at Merc this year, getting used as the guinea pig for setup experiments, etc while George has been left to get on with it.

I’d imagine that was his choice though. You’re not going to lumber your number one driver with experimental setups for half the season are you? He doesn’t care if it makes George look good against him, they’re not exactly going to decide he’s not up to it anymore and get rid are they :p

Lol ferrari is also my favourite.

When they pitted leclerc I was really hoping but not expecting for alonso to hold him off.

Damn, he made the pass.

Oh well he didn't make the fastest lap.

Then.. Speeding in pit lane!

You couldn't make it up! :D
