Belgium Grand Prix 2010, Spa-Francorchamps Circuit - Race 13/19

Was the 2nd practise session dry damp or wet?

Last 40 minutes the track started to dry out, there was a red flag around 14mins but the session started again with 4 mins lefts on the clock so everyone had enough time to a qualifying lap.

Renault have a funky F-duct design

Nice to see that the split times confirm that Ferrari and Red Bull have more downforce as they are faster in section 2 but slower in 1 and 3

I noticed on one of his early runs today - JB was a second off in the 1st section, absolutely slaughtered the 2nd and was then 1/2 10th off fastest time on the line (I think compared to Sutil at the time but I could be wrong)

Red Bull passed the additional wing testing today (although its nothing compared to the increased tests coming up at Monza), did their front wing flex at all in practice today?

The new test does not stress the wing enough. This is the reason that RBR are VERY confident that their wings will pass all tests.

We shall see 1 of 2 things:
1. The FIA will either increase the load and place it across the entire wing
2. The others will realise that the FIA testing procedures are flawed and shall replicate RBR's wing.

I think it will be No.2.

In either case, RBR have the best car and will continue to do so, for the forseeable future. McLaren and Ferrari will have to rely on the quality of their drivers being higher than that of RBR's. On top of which RBR have been shackled by not being able to give Vettel preference (due to shambolic management), something which does not appear to apply to Ferrari. This is is the reason why I believe that Alonso is likely to finish up as the top scoring driver in the 2nd half of the season. Will it be enough to win the title?

At this point, it is very difficult to see how McLaren/Hamilton can win the title. Their car is poor (what they did in Silverstone was very costly, but I think they bowed to pressure from their sponsors)...they have 2 great drivers, but then so do Ferrari (Alonso), in a better car. Rain is a great leveller and can wipe out RBR's advantage, but even then Hamilton will have to beat Alonso - not easy.

I believe that we are in for a treat on Sunday. Spa is arguably the best track in F1, with plenty of overtaking opportunities. When coated in rain, Spa produces some fantastic racing. I can't wait!!!

They were say in practice that the front wing probably generates upto 700kilos so 100kilo is nothing. We shall have to see what the new wing and floor tests are at the next race.

Do you think they have several tests but are weighting to see championship table before deciding which to use.

They should do 400kg and only allow 10mm movement instead of this linear rubbish.

Lets see all the teams panic. :D

Or say 1000kilo,that's more than downforce generated problem solved, should also solve rbi and was it saubers front wing failures.

a ton on the front end would snap it acid :p

Surely this second test shows something the FIA have picked up on with the floors of the cars giving gains? So surely Mclaren will have started looking at this area for ideas.. should the red bulls pass the next improved test at Monza ;)

Which forumites are at the GP right now and have access to the forums? If you are please post here so we can get together for a drink. Could meet at the circuit or in Spa town. Maybe even our hotel where a lot of the drivers seem to be staying.

Do you know if Ferrari are using their F-Duct?

Was Alonso just lucky with traffic on a couple occasions or does the Ferrari look a quick car in the changeable conditions and in the hands of Fernando?

As ever, I missed practice due to work.

Do you go every year fella? I'll make a point of going next year just to meet up :p :D
