Belgium Grand Prix 2013, Spa-Francorchamps - Race 11/19

I was about to argue that they didn't gain a position by cutting the track. however, by improving their quali times they may just have gained a position in quali by cutting corners/running wide/whatever so i would have to agree that the FIA are being as consisten as ever. Someone needs to either shout at the drivers or to give the drivers a list of corners where it is acceptable to run wide/cut

however, with the grosjean incident, personally i'd say they should have given him a penalty for his move on button so it wouldnt have made much difference

*edit*
10kph advantage for Red Bull? Goodbye Lewis race win.
the speed trap is just after eau rouge (forget the corner name) so i wouldnt be surprised if that gap shrunk a lot by the end of the straight

Firstly - First time for me watching BBC coverage and lovely to see EJ, DC and that technical guy (sorry forgot this name).

Loved EJ's interview with Horner and how he is adamant that Riccardo will be going to Redbull. I also agree that people should cut Pirelli some slack, it's getting boring now especially since they have to produce gimped tyres. I don't think Michellin can do better if they are considering a come back, they had there fair share of problems too back in the day.

Di'Resta should have continued with his lap, Spa always changes and is unpredictable when it comes to weather. It would have been nice to see Force India on the front of the grid - a wasted opportunity!!!

Great lap by Lewis and Nico, I'll be rooting for Lewis tomorrow.

Edit - I feel sorry for Frank Williams, no idea what is going on with that team.

20.2 Drivers must use the track at all times. For the avoidance of doubt the white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not.
A driver will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with the track.
Should a car leave the track the driver may rejoin, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any advantage.
A driver may not deliberately leave the track without justifiable reason.

And he had four wheels off the track on his pole lap - the most important lap of the entire weekend! :D

I'd say it was probably forgiven due to the conditions, but drivers have been doing it at Eau Rouge, Malmedy, turn 9, Fagnes, Stavelot and Paul Frere all weekend and as far as I'm aware, there's been nothing said.

Consistency is something the FIA don't do.

Personally I hate the rule. The limit should be the kerb, and if you go beyond the kerb, you hit some grass/gravel/astroturf (another pet peeve of mine) and that is the punishment. Drivers should be rewarded for pushing the limits, and if you're giving a corner a large kerb to abuse, let them abuse it, be it at Eau Rouge in qualifying or overtaking Massa at turn 4 of the Hungaroring.

Don't have an issue with the rule. Just don't understand why nothing's been said, it is in other seasons and tracks, where drivers have been told before practice, they are watching and will get penalties. Nothing's been said this weekend. They seem more than happy to let all the drivers do it. If that's the case come lout and tell the viewers. Or redraw the white lines.

Sounds like they're only going to come back on their terms though so changes will have to be made and these cheese tyres will be going which I don't think anyone will cry too much about!

The tyres is what has made the racing unpredictable.
Do you not remember the processions which used to take place when using Bridgestone tyres? And when drivers used to take a pit-stop on the final or penultimate lap, just to satisfy the rules, even though the tyres could easily last the entire race?

I like these unpredictable tyres. Drivers/teams do not...as it makes the race unpredictable, but as an audience member, I love unpredictability and dislike processions, which is what we had with Bridgestone.

Interesting, someone has pointed out that Lewis had all four tyres off the track at the top of Eau Rouge on his pole lap.

They were all doing it all weekend so far at Stavelot as well... makes me wonder why Grosjean got punished for his move on Massa at the last race then.

.... Where's the consistency?

probably just because it was for a clear cut advantage. All the technology, its not even something like did he didnt he. Either have the rule or not, but this is f1 and we all know rules are like wings, a little flexibility is allowed

bbc is far better than sky for coverage, it really is

trip round old circuit was nice.. would have loved to have seen that f1, much better than all the money now
