Belgium Grand Prix 2013, Spa-Francorchamps - Race 11/19

If Alonso won each of the remaining races and Vettel came 2nd, Alonso would win by a few points. If Hamilton did the same, he would lose to Vettel by a few points.

Tough challenge.

If only Vettel had a teammate who hated him, the team philosophy and was on his way out of the formula at the end of the season. :D

Its was a bit Kimi mania last year. Although to be fair a lot Finns make the trip.

Wish I was there again this year, sipping kasteel rouge and juliper watching that mentalist with fireworks.

I also thought it was a boring race. Maybe my expectations were too high after a thoroughly entertaining qually.

In the race the main players pitted, came back out, and drove in order. All overtakes were done before Les Combes or the Bus Stop.

Just wasn't that entertaining apart from Sutil and co going 4 abreast almost into the Bus Stop :)

Nice to see that Mclaren are definitively improving though. Beating two Lotuses and a Ferrari hands down and could have challenged for the podium if it wasn't for being too hesitant on the stops and pitting earlier at the end of the first stint.

The 3 abrest into Eau Rouge was insane from where i was sitting in Gold 2. Desperately wanted that bit of Force India that came up towards us. No dice.

Got this tweeted at me earlier... As a McLaren supporter... It hurts, but it's true.

That's about right :)

This season is over and done with that's unless we all start saying "we need vimto to crash" and we know what happens then ;)

And with all these paid drivers coming in I can only see it getting worse.

Yeah there are always a lot of Finns, and there were a lot of Dutch this year too who love qualifying.

Hoegaarden and Leffe for me, and by the sounds of it the fireworks guy was still about :)

Just got back from Belgium, only my second GP and 1st at Spa-Francorchamps.

Was again blown away by the noise and sheer spectacle of an F1 event. I didn't even care who won. Only shame was that it was all over so fast!

Went for general admission, and even though we got lucky with the weather, I probably would not do that again. Too much faffing around trying to find a good spot, and I am not such a hardcore F1 fan that I want to be there from 7 in the morning to get a good one.

After much searching, ended up on a decent spot at the embankment at Pouhon...got a nice video of the view on Lap 2:

As much as I enjoyed myself, Ill be happy to pay extra for a grandstand seat next time :).

The circuit itself is/was awesome! Even did the track walk after this time....very cool.

Tbh i had grandstand seat and everyone just stood up and blocked my view when the good stuff happened so I think it's worth saving however much it is and just turning up at 7am.

Well over all a great weekend. 3 British winners in the support races and plenty of brilliant racing. It was a shame that Hamilton couldnt get a win, but I did predict Vettel would walk past him on the opening lap. The Mercedes just wasn't quick enough in the dry.

As always at Spa the fans made it great. The usual brilliant mix and great banter. The collective groan at Vettel when he snatched pole, and mass cheer when Hamilton pipped him makes it seem like more than just us Brits are bored or him. Seeing the different levels of cheering on the drivers parade showed a lot too. massive cheers for Hamilton, Webber, and van der Garde, massive boo for Vettel.

It's always good to see whog the driver of the moment is by looking at what shirts and hats people.are wearing and buying. This year it was Kimi by a mile. You couldnt move for Kimi flags and banner and hats. Hardly any rocket red though, seems people are defecting fast from McLaren now they are doing pants :p.

Walked up Eau Rouge as always and I'm still staggered at it. I've also got no idea how Belgian health and safety let's them manoeuvre tens of artic trucks about on the track while thousands of fans mill about. Very nearly got run over twice, and a tail lift nearly squashed someone.

Didn't manage to steal a.sign, and looked hard for bits of Force India at the chicane but they were all cleared away. It's impressive how fast everything goes. Within an hour of the race ending all the pit wall kit was away, all the advertising down, and all the cameras packed away. Yet all the cars were still parked up at the end of the pitlane for anyone with a camera to take some shots of diffusers.

Not looking forward to the drive home tomorrow, but other than that, top weekend.

Interesting stuff. I remember when I was there 2 years ago, there were masses of Red Bull merchandise-wearing fans everywhere, and when Kobayashi flattened Hamilton up at Les Combes you could hear the eruption of cheering from the spectators.

I bought some Hoegaarden and drank it during the race. Lovely beer! I didn't sample any when I was in Belgium, should have :)

Yep. Its interesting to see how the general mood shifts over time. I've been at Silverstone when Hamilton got a standing ovation for his GP2 race, and then again when the place erupted when he for pole in 2007. Then there were a few years where the crowd didn't warm to him at all, especially the Spanish after the Alonso thing. Then Vettel came along and everyone bought hats and t-shirts and cheered him on. Then people started to tire and the number of rocket red hats exploded. And now McLaren have started to struggle and everyone had left their red hats at home and replaced them with Kimi ones, and everyone love Hamilton and everyone is bored of Vettel. There was a very strong sense of disappointment from the majority of the crowd when he got pole and again when he passed Hamilton, and from much more than just the Brits.

It is heading towards that situation when Schumacher was winning where people are starting to find it boring and predictable when he wins. Its not a dislike as such, just a felling of wanting something different to happen. I am having more and more conversations with people who don't follow F1 that start "so who won the F1? Vettel again?". I can remember loads of people saying "I don't bother watching F1. Schumacher always wins". Its heading that way again. People are just a bit bored of him.
