Benefits cheats - do you know any?

Apparently "work" makes him depressed, I don't like it much either but some of us just "get on with it" ;)

I have zero empathy when it comes to people with "depression", there are many times in my life where I could have probably just curled up with depression (being made redundant 3 times springs to mind), I guess luckily I just don't have a "depressive" personality.
You clearly don't have a ******* clue about depression, so I strongly suggest you go & read up on it.

I was using the "get on with" phrase in connection with the chap down the pub who thinks "work makes him depressed", nothing more.

I bet you're on the phone everyday to the relevant authorities about that one, right? Right?

No point because her previous boyfriend who is actually the father of her kids died of taking drugs a few years back. So obviously this is all document somewhere but what can anyone do if the NHS themselves sign them off as depressed, giving the reason they cant work?

Why do people think that mental conditions are vastly different to physical ones, do you believe in spirits & souls?, because the last time I read up on the subject the brain is an organ as-well.

Just as prone to error & conditions as any other part of the body.

You're completely right, I don't have a clue about it, I've never suffered from it and as I've said that makes it difficult for me to "personally" empathise with it. That's why I also went on to saiy"I guess luckily I just don't have a "depressive" personality"

I haven't said anywhere that I don't think depression is "real" and that people can suffer from it.

I think people are reading too much into what I said, it's almost like paranoia!

Quelle surprise. You have no right to complain. Get on the phone and report it, or remain quiet.

It was a comment towards this thread, not a complaint.

As I said, it’s all documented, so work it out for yourself if anything was done, whether or not this has been reported.

J/K :D:D:D:D

It wasn't aimed that specifically at you, it's a problem with the wider public & lack of understanding of complex mental issues.

People can empathise with somebody who has no legs much easier than somebody who hears voices, suffers depression or has no motivation.

I've also never suffered from any conditions, but I think some time spent reading up on these issues is useful in order to have an accurate view of reality.

I agree with you, I think a "physical" disability is easier to understand, I guess it much harder to "fake" the loss of a leg/arm ;)

I'm sure "depression" is given a "bad name/rep" by those who abuse it because they are just "work shy", unless everybody "claiming" depression should be believed, that's what I was alluding to in my post, others seem to have taken it to mean that I don't think "any" depression is real.

Is somebody "lacking motivation" always depressed or maybe just lazy?

Growing up in and still living in one of the highest unemployed areas of Manchester, I know many, many people who play the system to get more benefits than they would otherwise be entitled to. However, it isn't like the typical Daily Mail benefit cheat story that you see; these people are still **** poor and scraping to get by. There simply isn't enough work to go around and it is instilled in these people that it is now acceptable to do this.

As an example of why some people that I know have done it:

A close friend of mine was claiming JSA for 6 months at age 19 when he was told he had to attend a compulsory work finding course through the jobcentre. Whilst on the course, low and behold they managed to secure him a job as a window cleaner which he was very grateful for, so he signed off to start work.

What the window cleaner who employed him had managed to hide from both my friend and the jobcentre is that he was only willing to pay him £100 a week for working ~35 hours in all conditions. My friend basically had two options: report the guy to the jobcentre, in which case he would just be let go and have no work whatsoever, or continue to work whilst claiming JSA to boost his income by £50 a week and at least be able to buy enough food and pay some rent. It's a no brainer.

So, yes I know people who cheat the system but when we are talking about them still coming out with only £600 per month for working a 35 hour week, I can't really begrudge them that 'privilege'.

or he could move out of the grot hole that is manchester and find help in a more affluent area of the country.

So you've enquired as to if this has been documented? No, I didn't think you had.
