Benefits Street

Felt really sorry for the girl trying to get off the drug's and get her kid back. It was sad to watch when the women put the phone down on her after she asked about her child, then she started to cry.

Really?

Benefits money in at midnight; 5 minutes later stocking up on Special Brew?

Not really on the right track there. Not to mention that the last time she was looking after her kid (who from the looks of the photo was about 5-6), she went out (implying she left him in the house on his own) and then got arrested and put in prison?

I feel sorry for some of them (fair play to Mark for working a few days with no pay - that's hardly going to encourage you to want to work is it?) but sounds like she's had plenty of "second" chances, and there's only so many times you can try again when it's putting kids at risk.

It’s a shame that the ***** on this show are giving the impression that everyone on benefits are the same way.

I don't agree. I mean, not everyone on benefits commits benefit fraud. Or is a drug addict, or alcoholic etc. And I think most people are fully aware of that.

Anyone with a shred of common sense knows that this show is taking "special cases" and making a mockery of them.

The only "decent" person I have seen on this show so far who has won a TINY (please note tiny) bit of my respect is the 50p man from episode 1.

Then it's interesting how the media finds soooo many special cases over the years, so many in fact you begin to wonder.....

I am pretty confident that regardless of how many people milk the benefits system that the majority of claimers are genuine and outweigh the number of fraudsters.

Whilst I have no evidence to back this statement up, I would find it hard to believe it was the other way around.

Those 2 young parent's make me laugh.

moaning about £55 a week or whatever it is they claimed to live on.
later in the same ep giving fungi £3.50 or whatever it was so he could get a can of lager.

They have no idea how to raise children but have multiple kids....

How come they all have really trampy houses as well..

to much money on ciggs and booze? I've known people on benefits that have had decent looking houses that are well decorated inside and they kept the houses clean.

everyone on this program seems to hoover like once a year at christmas and have no idea how to budget

My mum grew up just around the corner from here in Winson Green. Mind you, that was a long time ago.

I quite like the show in general. It doesn't make me angry at all and I do have sympathy for some of them, not for all though.

We're always going to be paying the same or higher taxes regardless. Many good/bad people do rely on benefits they receive.

It does show a 'togetherness' and 'community spirit' of the street, but also shows what the far end of the spectrum can be like. Danny/fungi for example. Where as people like the 50p Man and White Dee can be seen as the "parents" keeping everybody looked after etc...

I find it's sad to watch.....sad for the kids to be growing up and living like that....

Glad I can provide for my Son.

And what chances have the kids themselves got in life?

It's a possibility, but you have to admit, the chances of them growing up, getting well educated, good job and a lovely house are pretty slim to none.

Certainly as far as 'benefits' in general are concerned... plenty of people on benefits are pensioners or people who are working in low paid jobs etc... or simply people who've had kids... As far as people who are in receipt of benefits in general are concerned then yes the show does cover some special cases...

As far as people who don't work are concerned... well I'm not so sure they're that unique... in fact they seem to be relatively common - perhaps not the majority but a very significant chunk. I remember a few years ago when I was in between jobs and signed on for a few weeks... the one time in my life so far when I've been out of work and/or education... while I'd love it if the local job centre was just full of otherwise ordinary people it really wasn't... granted plenty of regular people were in there... but a significant number of people who'd fit right in on benefits street were present each time I went there... chav mum screaming at staff, a drunk guy kicking chairs around... etc..etc.. some people just end up with such bad attitudes, behavioral issues that they'll never hold down a job and you can find them in pretty much any job centre in the country. While plenty of people find themselves temporarily out of work long term claimants are sometimes longterm claimants for good reasons... namely no one in their right mind would ever hire them.

That's because anyone with half a brain quickly realises the "job" centre has absolutely nothing to do with finding a job, and it's probably the worst place you can go if you actually want to get back into work. ;)

That's not really relevant though - whether you intend to conduct your job search there or not you're still required to go there if you want to claim.

My local job centre may as well be a cave for all the Neanderthals it contains. All you hear is there is them replying to job advisors questions with incomprehensible grunts.

Number one question is always just "when will I get my money" and then as soon the job discussion starts, the grunts appear as they are totally disinterested in lifting a finger at all. And then they all hang round the entrance smoking weed and just looking like total and utter oxygen thieves.

People moan about job centre staff being grumpy and rude. I don't blame them when they have to deal with this lot. Why should you be polite to someone when all they do is think you are a stuck up snob for daring to have a job and then start calling you names as soon as they leave the building.

I've heard it before outside. One of the scrotes literally said to his mate. "The ******* fat bitch said I won't get any money for 2 weeks" what sort of way is that to speak about somebody?

That's chavs for you.

Although some jobcentre staff need to stop treating everyone the same way.

Plenty of decent people do end up losing their jobs you know.
