Benetiz confirms he leaves at the end of the season

everyone is equal, tom84. everyone.

I dunno, I think season ticket holders especially of the clubs who are consistently in Europe and follow their team to the deepest darkest depths of Europe season after season are probably entitled to believe they know more than the typical arm chair supporter

About 10 years ago or so I posted a thread in here called "I was at the match snobbery" or similar which sadly has been pruned but basically the point I was making is that there seems to be inherent belief that attending matches means you know more about the game and indeed club in general than armchair fans. Yet aside from some off the ball stuff in my experience watching on TV generally gives one a better insight into matches.

Furthermore while the average person in the stands does probably know more than the average so-called fan who watches the odd game on TV, I have come across fans at matches who are seemingly fairly ignorant in their views (at least those they choose to vocalise).

Probably one of the toughest things when talking about people knowing 'more than the average fan' is there is no benchmark of what the average fan actually knows to measure against. So different people have different perceptions of what the average fan knows - someone who thinks they simply have 'average' knowledge could actually have more knowledge than someone who thinks they are 'above average'.

Nowadays in the internet age simply having factual knowledge - or access to facts (hi Rafa) - isn't really that much of a differentiator but the things I tend to take notice of are people who attend youth matches and give reliable tips. When Walcott was about 14-15 a guy at work was raving about him saying he'd be in the first team in a year or so and my co-worker wrote his name down in the diary as 'one to watch' (long before Twitter etc of course). Two years later he signed for Arsenal and was off to the world cup, coming from a player that 99.9% of fans had never heard of. Likewise people who watch minor European teams and can spot talent that hasn't alerted the mainstream media yet.

Probably one of the toughest things when talking about people knowing 'more than the average fan' is....

And such is the arrogance of the man that we're even talking about it to begin with. Like I said before DM aint special whatsoever, he's a bog standard football watcher with a holier than thou attitude.

We'll all of read stuff on this forum in relation to football and be left thinking whether the speaker has ever seen a game of football in their life (I've probably actually replied saying as much) but at no point does anyone other than DM actually display an attitude that he's better than others. In relation to the other Arsenal supporters DM is no more knowledgable than K1LLSW1TCH (the first Arsenal supporter who's name came to hand due to him posting in this thread :p)

EDIT: K1LLSW1TCH that wasn't meant as an insult btw so sorry if you take it that way :p

Rafael Benitez will still be Chelsea manager for the home game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, but the Blues are considering replacing the 52-year-old with Avram Grant until the end of the season before bringing Jose Mourinho back in the summer.

I'm not having that. You're far more special than I can ever dream of being.

oh no. BaZ87. you're just a special. they broke the mould when they made you. may have dropped it.

chuckle chuckle

Surely Jose isn't going back there, not unless RA crawls to him on his knees with apology letter in his mouth. :p

Would love to see him back in the premiership tho, such charisma!
