Benitez unleashes on Ferguson

Actually, Stoke should have been beaten, they aren't very good. The stuck everyone behind the ball against us and we were awful, we didn't scrape a 1-0 because they were good, we scraped a 1-0 because we were awful.

Liverpool should have blown them away.

As for the comment above from Tombstone I think saying that if they (Liverpool) win, and Chelsea don't win, then you have a 5 point gap, but the case that might be, your threat was Manchester United and their games in hand.

As it stands though, I don't think we'll beat Chelsea tomorrow playing as we are. We need Rooney to be amazing.

Tell you what, it's great to finally be in the premiership :p

Every game we've won, or drawn it's because the other team were awful. Were you at the stoke - manure game down at the Brit? We had our fair amount of chances and were dissapointed to not win, let alone lose. I agree some games we have been dire and have defended heaviliy but we are trying to survive. It's our first season and we need to stay up in order to build. Prefer Pulis told our players to role over so your nonce players can win easily?

Against Liverpool yesterday I saw it as 2 points dropped. We had enough in the latter half of the first half and spells in the second to put the game behind us. I thought we had by far the more clear cut chances.

If football actually followed some of you guys mentality it would be a very boring game. The only people that would win would be the loser top 4.

Good things to come from Stoke in 09 imo. If we complete some of the signings we hope over the next week I can see us establishing ourselves as a mid table team before the end of the season.

The games in hand wouldnt have bothered me though, had we won against stoke, even if Man U won today and then won their games in hand they still would have been behind Liverpool. However the fact that we drew yesterday has changed all that, had we won we still would have been on top with the ball in our court so to speak.

But still to play us. Big difference.

Actually, I've defended Stoke many times this season. The only chance you had was when Fullers boot came off. Man Utd were awful. Hell, we were only average when we beat your lot 5-0 six weeks earlier.

And Chelsea though. So no difference ;)

But as I've said all season, Chelsea look decidedly weak with teams still scared of them. They should never have beaten us the first time round and only a stupid tackle from Rooney gave them the set piece to go 1-1. :).
Still though, nice to have shuck up Chelsea knowing they are playing your lot in 3 games time ;).

Got to say that we had a pretty awful game as well, and a dreadful one when you beat us 5-0.

The reason why we may finish behind you and Chelsea would simply be down to the quality of our squad rather than our ability to win when we play poorly.

I would say due to the Fatmans stubborness, team selections, negative play and his OBSESSION with kuyt, before mentioning the quality of certain players.

Benitez you are going to keep this team known as "the great pretenders" as long as you are in charge.

Fergie doesnt even have to bother with the mind games with fat man.
Do you know why Adolf Hitler was never assassinated by the Allies? Because he was more of a threat to Germany alive and in charge.
It would not surprise me if Fergie just sang his praises for Benitez and sat back with a little grin.

Must say I am suprised by the timing of his little rant. As I said in another thread it's one thing having a go at Fergie and another going on MoTD or SkySports whining in a round about way but never getting down to it. Maybe he should show some conviction and tell the press what he really things of refs after the game.

Maybe he did it to put some pressure on the ref today. He might see us more of a threat than Chelsea to moving them off top spot. A win for Chelsea would have made it a two horse race. I am not convinced it has had the desired effect that he wished for.

The only thing it will have done is put pressure on the FA to act if Fergie does step out of line in the future. They won't want to appear soft if he confronts another referee.

Maybe but it could also work the other way. If there are any contentious decisions at Anfield etc then Fergie(quite rightly so) will always point back to Rafa's comments.

The whole thing is just bizzare. Week in Week out fans up and down the country call for the ref's head, they should earn their respect, their rubbish blah blah blah yet when Fergie does confront them he is the wrong 'un :s

In the main I have took a lot of what Rafa has said with a pretty large pinch of salt. I have yet to see a ref award a goal, freekick, sending off, change a decision or change the scoreline because of something Fergie is supposed to have said to them.

The thing is, the whole rant thing is completely irrelevant at the moment. Sure people who support Man Utd will try and spin it one way, and people who support Liverpool will try and spin it another way, but at the end of the day all that will matter at the end of the season is who wins the league.

At the moment, despite all the bragging and hyping by various fans, nobody truly knows who will win the league. Theres still a possible 50+ points left in the season to be won. Liverpool fans can claim that they will win the league and mouth off about it, Man Utd fans can claim that they will win the league and mouth off about it, and Chelsea fans can claim that they will win the league and mouth off about it. But thankfully currently any of them could win it and nobody can be certain that their team will win it.

Its been a peculiar season with some unexpected dropped points here and there, theres nothing to suggest that wont continue, anything can happen. Once the season is over and we all know who won, then those fans can be justifiably smug, but not before. Whats the old saying about chickens and counting them before hatching?

The rant, was pointless, but had nothing to do with the abject performance yesterday, lets face it, the likes of Lucas,Benayoun and Kuyt are well capable of putting in those rubbish display on their own:p

If we beat Chelsea and win our games in hand there is only going to be one team worried ;)

Kudos to you & your boys yesterday mate You Pawned us :(
To say I was/am Gutted is a Major understatement. Not that we lost to you but how we lost & how we looked, Capilutated is the word that springs to mind & all that passing to achieve nowt ****** me right off.
I have to say I would feel a Whole lot better if our manager showed a Little passion.

A Gutted man :(

More facsssssh from Rafa today. I've never seen him do anything like this, ever. He's looking more silly day by day.

"They were saying we are not a threat," said Benitez in the Daily Mirror. "Now they know we are, they are starting mind games.

"But I don't think it's a mind game when you have control over everything, it's a mind game when you have the same level as the other people, then you can show you are cleverer than the others.

"But when you have control of everything and your chief executive is powerful in the FA and things like this, then that is not mind games.

"Is there a conflict of interest with David Gill at the FA?

"That is another fact. It is a fact that one person has a lot of power and control, and is on a lot of committees in the FA.

"To me that is very strange."
