BenQ XL2420T or Samsung S23A700/750D

I went to the *** No mentioning of competitors **where my friend works and just looked around for a few hours to help decide which monitor I wanted before spending £300..... I was allowed to change a few settings on the monitors and play Serious Sam and nfs shift on them which are quite fast paced games and did for pretty long....
If you dont value my opinion or anything I say about my experience then ok thats fine.... But for someone to tell me that I am wrong (which is impossible because someone opinion cant be wrong) and Im not allowed to share it because im pulling false information out of thin air and talking BS (I dont understand how I just shared my opinion) and that I am not allowed or qualified to do so is absurd in all honesty, specialy when they themselves havent even seen the monitor, but regardless all I did was share my opinion and advcie based on my experience... that is it, didnt say anything wrong or give false numbers or any infact, just my opinion.

Well I'm glad you've managed to trawl through all of that and pick out some good points from everyone to help you out. This thread is a good case in point of how some animosity can lead to further animosity and it is never constructive. I have gathered a lot of feedback from users of the SA950 and SA750 series of monitors who really resonate the opinion of 'Dan_the_man'. Generally the more they use it the more they like it. There are always some people who won't be able to accept the limitations of the TN panel technology and for them this decision is always more difficult. I suppose in a way you are in a fortunate position from what you said earlier about being able to control your lighting properly - it means you can enjoy the clear benefits (pun intended) of the Samsung's Ultra Clear Panel without significant drawbacks.

I should have also said thank you for taking the step back and trying to calm things down again. Yeah, forums are like that, sometimes you just go to take a step back and not get angry. Some people just have bad days when they post and it doesn't do anybody any good to respond in anger. It just escalates.

But now we are all friends again, we can go back to talking about the monitor!! :p Do you have any idea when you will be getting one? Prad.de is supposed to have a review done already, but won't be releasing it until the 20th of February. I can buy it for 2.50 or something like that. But I would hate to buy it and then find out it was only a preview!!

I don't have any problems with the limitations of TN. I have a pioneer LX5090 hooked up for all those things that I need a good screen for. Heck I still play CS:Source at 800*600 :) The scaling is probably crap in both the samsung and the Benq.

Panacakesniffer, have you tried playing games in 1024*768 on the benq yet? If not, do you think you could do me a favour and try it out? Just want a brief idea of how good/bad it will look!! Thanks!

Yeh I will actually Ive been meaning to try out the scaling options, but please everyone be friendly and dont tell me im talking complete rubbish when I come back and talk about it or im not allowed or qualified to :(

Ok, thanks for that, it's good to have friends working in these places!! :) I am still not sure how good a test you could give three monitors on three pc's. Not doubting you, just my opinion. It takes me at least a couple of days before I know enough about the monitor and it's settings to know if I like it or not. And I would need to play a multiplayer FPS game before I could say for definate about response time.

How are you finding it now that you have it at home? Have you played CS:S on it?

As for the last part of your post, do I value your opinions, well I value everyones opinion, good or bad. Subjective or not. And no matter how someone offends you on a forum you should try not to react. It's hard I know, but trust me, you will have a much better internet experience :)

** Quote removed as it contains comptitor name **

They have the Acer too, the BenQ got replaced with the old one the day I went to have a look and is one reason I went there to have a look at all of them as my friend let me know about it and didnt want me to get a 27" lol.
They did only have the 3 120hz though, but were all next to eachother to check out.

Holy smoke. I think I'll get along to my local tonight.

They often compare similar montiors/TV's all on the same PC or source, it wasnt separate ones. I did have a play around for quite long before taking the plunge and the BenQ just felt right for me and noticeably more appealing in the games so took it home, and like I said the Samsung did have slightly better colours, the the BenQ takes a while ot get the best settings for and isnt much behind in that sense.

CS:S is pretty amazing if im honest, apart from the smoothness and response the black equalizer is one of the best things about it and really helkps, something the Samsung didnt have a very good version of.
It specially helps in CSS and gives you a very detailed picture even with dark parts of the map. The dakr parts get lit up without the rest of the screen going bright, one of my favourite parts of the monitor for gaming aswell. Very good in BF3 too, and Batman.

I would always compare something in store if you can instead of just ordering it over the internet, like a pair of trainers, its best to try them on to see how they fit for you instead of blindly buying them online. Doesnt often work out liek that with computer parts though :)

Monday according to BenQ. ;)

Hmm... I have a good friend who works for DSG myself and he has been able to pass me over monitors in the past. I am fairly sure, though, that DSG stores have only ever stocked the T23A750 and a select few stores the S27A950 (and T27A950). I was after an SA750 from Samsung for a while and went down that avenue myself and it lead nowhere. I have also had users frustrated that they can only find the 'TA' series in such places as they want to test the 'SA' series before parting with their hard-earned cash. And said stores have the audacity to call the 'TA' series monitors 120Hz. Yeah the panel may be capable of that but if there is no way to output that then what's the point? And also the input lag of those hybrids is understandably relatively high. So yeah.

Can I ask various members in this thread to calm down a bit please. I have said this before that everyone is allowed an opinion, whether they are right or wrong. If you don't agree with what someone has to say then either post a valid constructive response or just ignore them.

Any repeat of this behaviour will result in thread closure, suspensions handed and possibly even HW access removed.

Interesting thread, just want to say I've seen PCM2's posts a lot and he knows his stuff.

HeatoN (great guy btw!), SpawN & zowiegear have done a great job working with BenQ on those products (personally I think making the darker areas lighter is a bit lame as I prefer to play on a calibrated set myself and don't really tend to struggle with dark areas but that's just me) but I'm VERY happy with my Samsung S27A750D and would highly recommend it to everyone

I was very reluctant to move from a very good CRT to this but now I would never go back, I used to be involved with "eSports" and play many games myself so I too know what I'm talking about

gl hf to the person who made the thread, a lot of info here to digest ha

Yeh thats the whole point though, all monitors have this Black Equalizer in their game mode, but the BenQ with black equalizer set to your preference it only lights the very dark area's of the screen up and doesnt effect the rest of the screen so your gamma stays the same and you dont get crushed blacks or the screen doesnt go too bright like pretty much all other monitors.

It is one of the very good parts of this monitor and one that the Samsung is lacking specially with games as it really does improve competative gameplay and many people have said the same too.

well, that was hard reading thread! lol

funnily enough I was just looking at what monitors were on the market this morning, and almost bought a Samsung 700D, but the VAT back option is now finnished, so then i looked up the Benq 2420T , and i still can't decide

I have an Nvidia card if that makes any difference to a purchase.

I use it mainly for games (not CS) and Im getting into photography and i watch a bit of movies as well (but not too bothered about the movie side) Gaming takes priority and then Photography work

what would you recomend for me?

Thanks

well this seems to be a bit of a HOT topic in the same boat myself and was gna start a thread (argument) think ill wait for PCM2,s review on the benq as it was top of my list just topping sammy :)
