i bought a cpu about a year and a somewhat ago and recently tried to remove it and sell it due to an upgrade. but the cpu was stuck solid to the heatsink i think there was thermal pad used between them and when i tried removing the heatsink it bent all the pins on the cpu anyways just wanted to see if i could call overclockers and see if i would be able to get the cpu repaired or somthing. still have reciept and everything.

I bent a few pins on my old AthlonXP. Simply got myself a magnifying glass, a pair of tweezers and straightend them myself. Obviously not perfectly straight, but once straight enough the socket did the rest. Worked fine! :)

Maybe worth a shot unless they are really bad!

I was bending some pins on a 3500 back after i knocked them, i ended up snapping one off!

Still works, after 1/2 hour of me panicing and dropping some copper wire into the mobo hole. AMD really need to use LGA!

I do not think anyone will pay attention to your request in case you decide to send it back for repair.

You could borrow a gap measuring device (the one they use in the garages to measure the gap between the valves) and with this you should be able to straighten the pins. Make sure that you do not bend them too much or they could be snapped out. You do not have to go to a garage to get one of these, they could be found in any decent DIY set. You could also try a credit card, but it only helps if you have problem with the pins at the edges.

Good luck.

LOL oh God almost broke one of the pins whilst trying to straighten it. theres just too many bent ones. take a look LOL im such a prat.

cheers mate ill try that, tried it with tweezers and almost snapped a pin off but ill give it a shot with the gap measuring device. The only reason i assumed that it might be repaired is because when i purchased the cpu they said it comes with lifetime warranty not sure if bent pins are covered by warranty

Lifetime warrenties will not include damage caused by misuse.

The lesson is to run your PC for a few minutes before removing the HSF. This heats up the TIM and allows you to safely separate things.

got it fixed and all straighten up . FYI jewelers look at you funny when ask them and tell you that they wont fix computer chips. LOL i had to do it with a credit card LOL an it worked im soo happy. :) :) :)

Nice one. lol. By the look of that pic there were loads! Lol I only had one when I did mine. :o Glad it's sorted!

I had this with my winchester, only it was OEM and it arrived like that (from a competitor). Just had to correct them enough to go back into the socket.

Are you sure the guy you spoke to wasn't pulling your leg about the jewellers?

Must have been a nasty joke, especially when you think OMG my chip is gone. ;)

Woah, that would scare the crap outta me! I wouldn't even put it back in case it shorted something, but that's quite nice!

I remember with an old AXP, I took the HSF off and it also took the CPU off. Nothing was damaged, but was quite scary at first.

i've had pins bent at work at like literally 90 degrees...and back on themselves :P

That takes time to repair! Still work though.

I have a Mobile P4-M 2Ghz with a snapped pin and it is still working, happily folding in my laptop at the moment. Must've been a ground pin that I snapped.

It's actually not that scary you just have to take great care (and good eyesight!!) when bending the pins back.
