Best 1440p monitor for £500

Done some more testing on it and the yellow bleed in the bottom left hand corner is truly shocking

What on earth are Dell playing at letting them out of the factory in this state?? I'm just glad that it has a stuck red pixel as well so I can get Dell to replace it on site.

Very disappointed in this monitor :(

Join the ever growing club in being disappointed with this monitor, you only have to read customers opinions on the net.

The thing that has disappointed me most is Dell's attitude to the obvious problem of light bleed with this monitor which isn't a cheap, tacky bargain basement monitor, read the box where it says premium panel

It sounds to me like they are washing their hands of the problem and passing the problem onto the customers, its laughable that they say its within tolerances, whose tolerances exactly ?

You can bet your house on it that the monitors that they show off at places like CES and other shows are hand picked monitors with no issues, the same as the ones that will send out to be reviewed to places like tfcentral etc.

You're spot on with all of that unfortunately :(

I bought it thinking that people with problems shout loudest and that there must be plenty of people happy with this monitor just not posting. Thought I stood a good chance of getting an acceptable quality monitor.

It seems I am wrong and that it is total pot luck if you get a good one. I'm going to give Dell one chance to replace it with a good one before sending it back for a refund and buying the Asus (as I should have done in the first place).

Just tried some Crysis 3 and in darkish scenes the whole bottom left corner is yellow :( Totally unacceptable. The bottom right has some minor white bleed but its not too bad. The stuck red pixel is only visible on a black screen.

It's a real shame as it is obviously a great monitor if these flaws weren't present.

Thanks for your comments anyway :)

Been on to dell this morning. They will replace the monitor next week. Only because of the stuck red pixel though.

The bloke reckoned the appalling yellow bleed was ok!! Unbelievable!! The whole bottom left corner lights up yellow even in a lit environment!!

I'll never buy another dell as long as I live and if the replacement is no good it will be returned for a refund and I'll be buying the Asus.

Seems they're cracking down on light bleed returns. :(

My replacement was literally perfect so hopefully yours will be the same.

They said same timescale to me but it was here next business day.

Thanks for the update on yours.

Fingers crossed I get a decent replacement :)

I hope so as if the faults weren't there it would be an awesome monitor.

I can put up with some minor light bleed as it is to be expected with LCD tech, but the whole corner of the screen being a cloudy yellow is bang out of order.

Not checked manufacture date or revision yet. The yellow clouding is as bad as any pictures I've seen so far. It affects a large proportion of the bottom left quarter of the screen. I'll take some pics tonight if I get time.

Yeh you can but try and find a courier that will insure a 27 inch monitor, they will carry it but without and insurance for either loss or damage. Also you will be out of pocket for around £12 - £15, that shouldn't be the case with something thats clearly faulty but Dell won't admit its faulty, they say its within tolerances which is comical really.

This basically.

If the replacement is a dud too (and lets face it there's every chance) then I have to decide whether to keep trying for a good one or just get a refund.

Might have to lie and say the next one has a dead pixel if it just has bad backlight bleed.

Ok, just set up my replacement u2713hm (it's a Jan 13 rev00) and it is much better than the last one. No dead pixels this time and much less light bleed.

However, there is still a noticeable small patch at the bottom edge slightly to the left of the middle.

Now need to decide whether to swap for another one, get a refund and go for the Asus or just keep what I have.

The most frustrating thing is that my old 2407WFP had zero light bleed and other than the power button issue was perfect. So in the space of 5 years since I bought it, monitors have actually got worse in this respect

u2713hm is classed as a budget monitor and cant expect the same warranty as a top end screen compared to the u2713h and a u2711 i dont expect the warranty to be as good from the manufacturer on these. but from a quick scan it looks like theres been quite a few complaints about the hm versions

I'm not sure how anything that costs £400 can be classed as 'budget'

I'd say the Korean models are budget, but surely not a £400 Dell?

Realised that maybe the default backlight setting of 75 was a little on the bright side and turned it down to 50. Can't see the light bleed patch nearly so much now.

Will have a play with it over the weekend and decide if I'm going to keep or switch. I've gotten used to 1440p now and don't think I want to go back to the 24 inch now anyway.

Never seen any image retention on an LCD before

Even with the brightness at 45 I can still see some slight bleed at the bottom of the screen in really dark scenes on bioshock infinite.

Damn, wish I'd bought the Asus now. Although chances are that would have some bleed too.

I thought they were supposed to be improving LCD tech

Have you tried games and movies with dark scenes? What do you have the brightness set to? I'll wager that your monitor isn't perfect and that there is at least some light bleed even if it is minimal.

The bleed on my current u2713hm is tolerable and can only be seen if you really look for it, but it's still there and that annoys me. Especially as my old 2407wfp was perfect in this respect.

Ah well, at least there is no bright yellow blotch or dead pixels on this one

I don't think the H model is really that great for gaming though? It's more of a professional monitor. Think it has more lag / motion blur than the HM.

Just go for the Asus pb278q which is just as good as the Dell but without so many QC issues. In hindsight, I'd have paid the extra £75 and bought the Asus.
