Aliens is on film4 right now.

Fantastic films but for me Aliens is by far the best in the series. Not generally a massive fan of Cameron but he manages to combine elements of the horror Ridley Scott introduced with some fantastic action. Music and atmosphere are pretty much perfect too. Film can still make me squirm desire the fact I know exactly what's coming :p

what's everyone elses favourite?

Go on then, who and where?

He plays Captain Hollister off Red Dwarf. You rarely see him in the earlier series, a lot more in the later ones though.

Must agree with the build up of the atmosphere, my lass watched it with me and by the time the Alien came out of the wall and took out Frost she almost screamed the place down because she was that nervous :D she's still scared of it and won't watch it with me tonight :D

Alien and Aliens are 2 different films (1st was more of a horror stalker film, whereas the second went more with the action and guns) but both amazing. 3rd was good but the fact they had cgi and insisted on flashing the shiny alien in front of the screen took away from it slightly. The dodgy guy in a suit that they had to mostly hide and only flash up now and then worked much better for the atmosphere.

I really dislike this movie, feels very disjointed and a very weak plot line. I suppose every director is allowed a 'wide' and this is Finchers.

are you talking about the cinema release or the directors cut? (cinema = alien coming out of the dog, directors coming out of the ox) the cinema release was disjointed, infact it doesn't really make sense in one major part. the directors cut shows them catch the alien and strings it all togethor. i love the premise (they are unarmed) and watching the special features shows another idea they had was to set it on a vastly dense forest planet with the only inhabitants being monks. the film is essentially about faith, the prisoners have found theirs and believe the alien is their 'judgement'. cinematography is incredible too.

currently also watching aliens on film4 and it's my second favourite. this looks like the directors cut too with the sentry guns :D

agree with this. Cgi in that day was poor too so I just found it looked ridiculous rather than creepy. I love how the original two looked, the suited aliens wernt great and it limited what they could do but for me they seemed more realistic.

Personally I think that's why you rarely see a good alien based horror film these days or horror films in general. Too much reliance on cgi and things looking spectacular rather than getting inside peoples heads.

Alien, Event Horizon as two examples looked nothing special but were unreal films.

This is so true. Every new horror film wants to create its own 'freddy' etc but insist on having some ugly green shiny cgi monster, and any tension that is built up until the revealing is completely shattered. Its happened in so many films where 'something' is out there but you dont know what or where, then they show you and its like 'Oh there it is. Looks a bit manky..... Why is it still standing there showing off its special effects? Ah looks a bit crap now'.

CGI is a lot better now but imagination still trumps it for the most part in this genre.
