Best Alien film?

looks like im going to follow suit and say aliens is my favourite. However one of my favourite scenes is the underwater chase in aliens 4. Which was the worse in the fanchise

There is no CGI Alien in Alien 3...FACT :D

Seriously...google it, i've had many long arguments with friends and forumites alike who insist the Alien is CGI, there is CGI used in Alien 3...just not for our favorite beasty with the exception of the death scene.

Hmmm interesting. I still maintain that the need to show off the alien takes away from its presence. Also looking into it, it may have been the fact they used a rod puppet on a green screen then plonked it onto the film made it look a bit off. I still say the 3rd was good, but its use of the alien didnt sit well with me. Enjoyed the film all the same though.

agreed. the alien seems to look different from shot to shot, like they got the lighting completely out in some scenes, but in others it looks epic.

i watched alien 3 again today, and i must say the chase scene near the end, it looks like there's 3 or 4 different aliens running around as it changes it shape, size and sliminess quite a bit :p

It is very choppy at the end, the alien does tend to change look on a scene by scene basis. However I can forgive the dodgy effects because I simply prefer the story in this to all the others, both Alien & Aliens are epic but 3 will always be my personal favorite.

Aliens is easily my fave out of the 3, although I have never seen the directors cut of the 3rd film. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Alien3 showing on film4 today is the Cinema or Directors version?

Alien and Aliens were equally good imo just different - given the choice I'd watch Aliens which IMO is still one of the best movies of all time. Alien 3 is incredibly naff - I can kinda see where they were going with it but it doesn't translate well to holding the viewers attention, Alien 4 isn't great but not dire its watchable for the entertainment value unlike 3 but not much substance either.

Unless this is sarcasm, there is a fourth you know! :D

The 4th one and the AVP films are fine as mindless action films, but I don't really consider them part of the Aliens series. 1-3 makes a nice story from beginning to end, although as others have said 3 is a bit of a weak link in the series.

Will watch 3 again today. I hope it is the directors cut, as they showed Aliens with the extra scenes.

It's a tie for me with Alien and Aliens, both are good in different ways.

I actually don't mind Alien 3 at all. I never saw Alien 3 when it was released, and only ever saw the Director's version later on, so no doubt plays a huge factor.

But Alien 4... ugh, what were they thinking? :(

The trouble is...it could have been so good. A major plus was the casting of Brad Dourif as well as a few elements seemed to have been borrowed from the comics...the two aliens turning on the third to escape for example.

The underwater scene is fantastic...think what you want about the rest of the movie but the tension when I first watched that part was immense...right up until they pop up in that room full of eggs.

This may seem a little off topic, but is it jsut me, or does anyone else think that 'Halo' is almost a direct rip off 'Aliens'? Especially in the early scenes of the first Halo. The troops seem to have similar attitudes, there is the black sarge, even that Pelican ship, or whatever it is called, looks almost identical to the one that drops off the marines in Aliens. It just seems so obvious to me, but I have never found anyone that agrees.

Slightly more on topic, I would have to agree that Aliens would have to be my fav, as there are just too many awesome quotes, and an awesome story XD
