Best and Worst Console Pads Ever

you are basing your opinion on the revolution pad on images and vdieos?

..and the descriptions of it and how it works, yes :) I think it will be a spectacular failure. They have fixed something which wasn't broken; the best way to control action on screen is with a conventional gamepad, with buttons, joysticks and triggers.

There will still be a conventional controller for old fashioned games. And how do you know that pads are the best way to play games when you haven't tried a revolution?

I saw the video. I saw someone waving their hands and arms around - which is a lot of effort compared to slightly moving your thumb and fingers. I do not see how it can conceivably be easier to play like that for long periods and it not be tiring, or how you can achieve the same level of accuracy, with the same ease, that you can with a conventional pad.

I heard that the new type of controller was going to be the standard one which is included with the console though? Maybe they'll rethink that decision and make it optional - or include both but that would seem to add unnecessary expense.

Gamecube controllers will work on the rev I think? I'd heard the same as dirtydog, that the new controller was going to come as standard and to have a conventional pad was extra.

I do hope they include both with the console.

It may be less accurate, tiring and make you look like a fool but it looks like FUN and that's what playing games is all about, right?

Yes, there might well be an expensive ad on to play conventional games but perhaps we won't to play them. I know if I had to pay £25 to have a Dpad or buttons on my DS I probably would have just stuck with the touch screen.

The game is supposed to provide the fun. A good controller is totally invisible, you don't notice it. Your fingers and thumbs control the action on screen without you even realising you're doing it.

The CD32 pad was pretty poor. Not so much because of the ergonomics, but because it fell apart if you as much looked at it. The replacement pad that i bought for mine (forget manufacturer) was much better and fair more sturdy. Still going great to this day.

LMAO @ the rev sword thingie...

So many people are gonna have their eye out

I mean, can you imagine... some people (me sometimes) get pretty annoyed if they start losing, arming these people is not a good idea.

That's a good point and I mentioned the PS2 controller felt invisible in my hands in some games in a previous post. The Revolution controller obviously won't be anything like that. I think the nearest examples we have at the moment are light gun games and the Nintendo DS. They are both different ways of interacting with the games but they are a lot of fun to use. If Time Crisis wasn't on rails, if you could hold an analogue stick in the other hand and move freely it would in my opinion probably be the most fun shooter ever.

I think with the Revolution we are looking at something new and I don't know if the games will be compariable to what we are playing now.

best: 360 pad
worst: seag master system, the little box pad

funny enough the xbox pads seem to get smaller each time the realease one

Look at this mockup - http://www.4colorrebellion.net/media/pics/06/01/zelda_controller.jpg

You'll probably hate it but it gives me the horn.

ROFL you just made my day, I am litterallly in tears of laughter! Aweful..... Omg, rofl :D

Now that I have caught my breath back:

Best: Dreamcast - just playing msr with the triggers was soooo good. A good Dpad as well. I can't fault it in all honesty. A great improvement over the n64s stick which was too big. Also the official 6 button pad for the megadrive was just awesome. My brother had it, wich makes me vote...

Worst: Unofficial megadrive 6 button controller, competition pro pad. Just deviously bad. If the 6 button and the original 3 button had a kid, this would be it *shudder*. I always lost with it too, because its mine :( Worth mentioning the original Xbox as well...... ewww.

.....THE SWORD :D :_)

The Saturn pad was the nuts, especially for fighting games. So good that they based the Street Fighter II anniversary pads on it.

Best Analog pad; I'd probably go for the 360.

Best controller would be either a Neo Geo (original) or Dreamcast stick. They could both take so much abuse.

I must say that i think nintendo have got the wrong idear with the Rev controller i think it could be some what of a joke after release shame i like nintendo and that is the only think that is making me think twice about getting one
