Renegade was jawesome multiplayer and laughable camp single player. The best part was simply being able to see the world you knew from games you loved up close in first person, and go inside the buildings, play as the different units. Some of the maps were fantastic and some of the idea's brilliant. It only had 2 main issues, it was stuck in that time of 56k/adsl(IIRC) so lag was poor as it needed adsl but most were on 56k(again might be remembering something else). Then they added orca's to the game in a patch, which while awesome, within a couple of weeks it was half your team camping respawn orca's and half as snipers to kill the other orca's.
First few games of the series were best, original RA1, RA2 maybe. Generals was just crap, it was simplefied, crap units, crap idea's, crap story, and dumbed down. Ok, to be honest I haven't played it in years but i'm sure it just didn't have the length or intense action of the other games at all, woeful start to finish.
I really had high hopes for the latest games, but CNC3 and addon were pretty poor, they weren't terrible, but the story was lacking, Kane didn't seem to work as well as before. I guess theres only so many times he can die and come back to life before you don't care anymore.
The first games, half chosing where to go next, the map, the story and cutscenes, intense action and actually feeling like you were changing things was all missing since Generals.
