best CPU for gaming

worth waiting for AMDs new ryzen 3000 series in a few months ? or that i9 perform well enough ?, 2080ti suitable currently, or any new GPUs on the horizon ?

The 9700K actually beats the 9900K when it comes to gaming because hyperthreading is often a hinderance in games. The margins are very small; just 1-2% depending on resolution. But if you are just concerned about gaming the 9700K will save you £100 and have better boost sustainability.

The 9900K obviously pulls ahead in heighly threaded workloads like rendering.

9900K is the one. 2700x if you are on a budget but if you are thinking about a 2080ti then i guess you are not :D

I’ve got a 2700X and at 4K gaming I think the 9900K was churning out 1-2 FPS more at most, some titles the exact same frame rates. Barely anything in it at that res.

At lower res yes the 9900K is better.

I did the same but that was mainly because I wasn't going to pay over £500 for a CPU when I got a 2700x for £264 with a board what supports it in my spare computer.

Amd is the value for performance king, intel is the king of performance and 1080p gaming or gaming king of performance.

I would recommend the intel processor first for gaming imo, but if you want to go with amd well that is another story..

Comparison with intel vs amd well there are games out there that tax/use the graphics card more then the processor so, as hrl said that there would be little difference between the processors such as the 2700 x vs the 9900k in gaming basically so 1-2 fps difference at 4k for example because it is using the graphics card a lot more then cpu.

As for me i would go with the 2700x route and spend the money which you have saved on the graphics card.

So yeah at stock clock speeds and not overclocked speeds, amd is the bang for buck king and intel the performance king,

Yeah well if you win the silicon lottery and have a intel chip that can overclock to 5ghz at least then it will be on par or faster then the 2700x for example.

Like the 8700k at 5 ghz overclock, it scores the same in cine bench i think when compared to a 2700 x at stock speeds so yeah in cinebench.

and i would need some reccomendations on mobo ram, and cpu cooler maybe ? my case and hard drives should be ok
If going Intel I would lean towards one of the Gigabyte Aorus Z390 boards just check the features of each to see what you might want. For memory just get the cheapest 3200Mhz you can source, you don't need anything faster and you could probably go down to 2666Mhz without there being a jot of difference in games.

If you want the best then the 9900k.

Probably won't notice the performance between a 2700x and 9900k at 4k tho.

This anyways apparently the 9900k is £469.99

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £478.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

The 2700x is £289.99 so if you went with the 2700 x for 4 k gaming you save £180 over the 9900k so you can put this £180 saved towards a beefy graphics card like the 1080ti or gtx 2080 or the rtx 2080ti which is the graphics card you want.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £298.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

Solely for 4k gaming so yeah.

But overclocking the processors is another story though but at stock clocks the 2700 x offers the better value for performance over the intel processor when both processors are used to their fullest which means when all cores and threads are used by a program for instance.

Budget i could probably save a while longer and try and keep it at around £1000

I hope to use my existing corsair airflow 540 case and hand drives, monitor i think is 1080p iiyama

Thinking on waiting for ryzens new 3000 chips, should be out in a month right ?

current pc is i5 4690k, 16 gb ram, gtx 970

pc will be for gaming and browsing the web only, any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated if i should wait or go now, will the new amd lower intel prices ? thanks for any help

It will be quite a wait I think. Might as well pull the trigger on a 9900K if that budget doesn't include a GPU.

£1000 for what? Just the cpu / mobo / ram?
You won’t get a 2080ti under 1k

if i say just went for cpu mobo and ram now and stick with the 970, would that give me much improvement gaming wise, or better to spread say a £1200 budget over everything and go with like a £300 amd graphics card, i want to notice a good leap over a 970 and i5 4690k, would a 2nd hand 970 go for much on ebay ?
