BEST graphics card

/Para sees this thread turning into a fanboy flame war.

It is a mix of emotions and different performance in different apps that basically puts the X1900XTX and the 7900GTX pretty much on-par with each other. There will be instances that an X1900XTX will be faster, and instances where an 7900GTX will be faster.

However, the 7900GTX does produce less heat and use less power, so maybe that is something to consider?

If money is no object and your going for a dual-card setup (crossfire or SLI), then personally I'd opt for the (nvidia) SLI setup, seeing as SLI is more efficient at the moment, and is also far more mature.

But its horses for courses tbh.

How much would a dual setup set me back, money wise?

If i only go for a single which make of 7900 would you suggest, I was wanting to make sure i get a 512mb card, would it be worth it?

I would go for any 7900 GTX if you are looking at nvidia.

Pretty much all the same apart form differing warranty and software bundle.

the pre overclocked ones are an option but all 7900 GTX clock anyway.

Dual 7900 GTX around £760 and a SLI mobo to go with it.

You don't need two 7900's though the 7900 GTX is a fast card already.

Currently running two 512MB cards, which see me a rather nice performance increase over similar 256MB setups, so yeah I'd say 512MB cards are worth the difference.

A dual-card setup would be (assuming you already have dual-card motherboard be that either a crossfire board or an SLI board) costing you somewere around £750 for the two video cards.

i won't be greedy with two, money is still a factor to a certain extent

sounds like a plan to by a 7900 GTX, going to need to buy a new motherboard yet as im stuck in the VERY exciting world of AGP with a 6800 with broken pipes :)

I know this is a bit off topic but what motherboard do you reckon will do the job

Get 2x 7900GTX 512mb cards !!!!!!:P lol

2x Asus GeForce 7900 GTX/2DHT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-097-AS) = £1,000 inc vat!!!!!

Can you imagine a grand worth of graphics ?????

DFI expert

asus sli premium in that order

SLI > Crossfire for dual cards..

7900GTX outperforms the X1900XT-X by a few fps in most cases but the X1900XT-X is cheaper, pretty much the same in terms of performance, boasts more features.. so for single card x1900 for dual card 7900 :)

:D Nvidia 7900GTX all the way. Less power, and better support for sli as apposed to crossfire. If you want just one card, and to be honest, the 7900GTX and ATi X1900XT are both stonking cards performance wise, either will more than cope with the latests games. I was an ATI boy when the 9700pro & 9800pro were kings, but since nvidia came up with fantastic mid range cards (6600gt now the 7600GT), and "probably" the best single & double solution top card (7900GTX...sli mode), im in their favour. As soon as somethink beats it hands down , then i tend to swing that way.... only the best is what i say . However im NOT paying £450 for any single card... i wont have it long enough, and get upset when in 9 months time, somethink cheaper, mid range beats the pants off it...have fun !! :D

hmmmmm i hate it when there is so much to take into account

right can anyone give me the pros and cons of each card?

I think this will help a lot of people out if we do this, not double cards though just out of the 7900 GTX and the x1900xt

You really cant go wrong with either. Both are excellent cards. Personally i DO NOT like Ati`s control center, and seems to take a lot longer to load, than says nvidias. The 7900GTX uses less power, and tends to run a lot cooler because of this. I will say that IMHO , when playing certain games, ATi cards seem to me, to look a little smoother, and Nvidia`s seems a little more coarse, but im picking hairs. Just go and and get either, but if u plan to double up, go Nvidia. Crossfire master cards seem to be a stupid idea if u ask me (you pay more for it), but having seen a nice Crossfire set up, i cant really fault it. The option is yours, neither is a weak solution. You got the money, throw what you like at it, For me i want value vrs performance.

Best value , is really the 7600GT, but i went the next step for 7900GT, mainly cuz i was prepared to go the extra 80 quid. 7900GT , when clocked, gives 7800GTX performance, so for me, i made it best value.

x1900, and 7900 GTX are about on par, disadvantage of the x1900 is, it uses more power, and gives out more heat as said, disadvantage of the 7900 GTX is, same performance, but dearer, either way both are stonking cards so you'll be happy with either. :)
