i think ill go with the 7900GTX, how long would you say it would be before id need ANOTHER upgrade?

physX card is a bolt on card, bit like the old voodoo 3dfx cards. What ever graphics card you get, go into the future a year, and somethink will have it beat performance wise. It nevers stops. I normally upgrade every year graphics wise, and a bit longer on mobo and cpu.

You sir are a numpty...

PhysX is essentially an physics-accelerator card. It handles complex in-game physics calculations so the workload is no longer done by your CPU. Take Half Life 2 for example, the Havoc physics engine that produces the ragdolls (the falling corpses, rolling barrels etc) is all worked on your CPU. If it is not man enough your game will slooow...

So, you sitick a PhysX card in and games that (crucially) support it will use the card instead. Producing incredibly complex physics, including fluid dynamics, particle effects etc...

Neat huh?

7900GTX by a LONG way as it performs equal/better than the 1900xt-x yet consumes less power, produces less heat and overclocks more.

best single is x1900xtx, it has better iq, oc's better and has 48 shaders waiting.

best dual is 7900gtx sli as it has more support and functions.

I advise you to look at some benchmarks and make the decision from there. Whichever card you go for you won't be disappointed, performance wise.

Take into account the noise and power issue, it may persuade you to opt the Nvidia route.

im probably biased towords NVIDIA anyway because ive only ever used NVIDIA cards, i was always warned away from ATI, i think ill just get a 7900GTX

Neither is better than the other, as has been said they are on par, x1900's use more power, generate more heat, but are cheaper than the GTX, if the heat/power is an issue then go for the GTX.

get the 7900 since it uses less power and generates less heat so you don;t need to think about aftermarket cooling and your guaranteed that your PSU will not die from excessive load.

I don't think the ATI cards are as bad for heat/power as paople are making out.

Also this is another topic but consider that ATI cards have better IQ and do not suffer from the 'shimmering' issue as much.

OK they are probably a bit hotter and I agree that SLI is better than Xfire but if you are running a single card set up then it isn't an issue, I think ATI wins as it is slightly cheaper.

For people saying "I will put another 1 in later", You will probably change your mind when DirectX10 comes out or you need HDCP support.

But if you are going dual card now then 2x 7900GTX and a DFI Expert would be the winner.

They aint, ive never had any problems with my x1800, they do use more than Nvida cards etc... but it doesn't bother me.
