Best ISP For Gaming And Torrents?

UKFSN (Enta Reseller)

Enta has an 'Anti Loss Tool' that will limit the speed at busy times, but prevents packet loss so gaming is unaffected.

You have usage limits, but if you leech off peak then they are very generous.
£19.99/month gets you 30GB peak and 300GB off peak, off peak includes all weekends.
Monthly contract as well :)

lol AOL suck hard.

what problems have you had with BT? i have the 8meg package back at home and have never had any problems.. even sent us a free home hub and more recently a free bt vision package

What makes AoL suck?

With regards to BT:

a) Fair usage policy means if you download over 60GB in a month on their "unlimited" 8mb package, then they screw your connection for the next month or two. The download and upload speed restriction isn't too bad but the ping goes to hell = no online gaming.

b) Possibly worst telephone support service I have dealt with. I was on the phone with them yesterday for over 3 hours. I had simple questions they refused to answer. They keep redirecting me to different call centres, each one saying it wasn't their responsibility to help me and that I should call back the last one or get redirected somewhere else. Each person I spoke to contradicted the previous one. It was extremely irritating and cost a lot of money. Today I phoned and finally got my issue resolved but it took an additional 45 minutes. The whole scenario should have been dealth with within ten minutes at the very most, not nearly four hours.

c) Poor product value compared to some other ISPs.

Pro for business isn't it?

I have pipex extreme (name migth have changed I upgraded from 1mb), its unlimited and 19.99 upto 8mb, though might be 24.99 to new customers

They don't do an unlimited service. The £19.99 per month option includes just 30GB a month download limits. If you use more you have to pay £3 per 3GB. So it would seem no good for someone like me who downloads a lot.

why what :P

Entanet = UKFSN

Entanet dont throttle traffic, dont traffic shape and theirs no Fair usage/Acceptable usage policy. They define the limits per month and give you a choice on what you want to pay depending on how much bandwidth you think you will use.

Customer support is very good and even better when compared to AOL/BT/Tiscali/Virgin etc.

Sounds quite good - why recommend it over UKFSN?

Ive not experienced any of the above problems and Ive had BT running in a student house of 6 downloaders/gamers for over a year.

I do agree to an extent with regard to the telephone service, it is often a long wait /hold time but that only tends to be around peaks i.e. early evening/lunch.

Sounds nice. Am I right in assuming there would be no charge for migrating from BT and for leaving? I've been stung by nasty joining and leaving fees in the past. i.e. Can I just pay the £19.99 for a month or two then leave and pay absolutely nothing extra?

Also, when are the peak times defined as?

You said UKFSN is better than Entanet.

Are there fees for switching from another ISP and leaving?

What are the peak times defined as?

No idea about any fees BT might impose on you for leaving if you still have time left on a contract with them, UKFSN won't charge you an activation fee unless it's a new ADSL line...you would be migrating which is free. They also won't charge you to leave.

Peak hours are defined as Monday to Friday 08:00 to 22:00
Off-peak is defined as Monday to Thursday 22:00 to 08:00 and Friday 22:00 through to Monday 08:00.

Sounds like the best option for me so far. :)

Do you know if they charge a fee for leaving? Pipex stung me with a £75 leaving fee once despite having no contract with them.

Could we have a poll for the best isp ?

We could but I doubt it would be very useful. Might give a general indication of best overall service but there are so many different packages from each ISP. I think it is more helpful to ask people directly about the kind of package you are after.

i'll give you bad phone support, they are ****. not sure on value as i haven't really had any need to look into others but i've never had them cap my broadband or have any warnings about usage and looking back last year i was a bit of downloading fiend and was easily break the 60gb limit if that was fair usage (didnt realise it was)

I'm out of contract with BT so there should be no fee (I hope!). Are you 100% certain UKFSN won't charge me for leaving?

I could certainly get around the 30GB peak download limit with those off-peak times.

What kind of torrent download speeds are you used to? How about ping to game servers?
