Best ISP For Gaming And Torrents?

the wireless capabilities of it are terrible.

I had mine about 18 months ago now so the firmware may have been different at the time but it is a feature packed router. It wasn't without issues but there are telnet commands that people have posted on the Be forums to clear up certain issues such as wireless (related to TCP timouts). I was using it with WPA-PSK and 64 character key or garbage, we used 4 laptops and 1 desktop with it on the wireless and apart from one laptop there were no issues (3 laptops were intel wireless, the desktop was a belkin USB dongle). I think it was the adapter in the one laptop that didn't get on with the router very well but we never had signal strength issues.

Blueyonder! No limits and consistant speeds :D

....Except they've been taken over by Virgin now, so I'm not sure if it's changed.

ukfsn might not shape per say but they dont have enough lines for anything after 10pm/weekends so expect to see 2mb speeds at those times

If you can only get ADSL, then an Entanet reseller is about the best you can expect. UKFSN are fine, or any of the others.

If you can get cable, then you're stupid to think about anything else. I know it means Virgin Media and Telewest were 10 times better, but it beats the crap out of any other net connection.

I'm currently on 20 meg with no limits as long as i don't go crazy in the evenings between 6 and 10 i think.

Thanks to all for responses, I've made up my mind. :)

I don't have cable so I'm going for either ADSL 24, or UKFSN - probably the former.

I have one final thing I need help with now:

It states that it takes a minimum of five days to make an order. Now, I have paid for BT Broadband up until the 24th January and don't want to let that go to waste. However, moreso I do not want to pay for an additional month with BT that I won't use.

So..when should I make the transfer?

Be , there top package is fast and stable for gaming and torrents for me in my old uni house in bolton at the start of the year they don't have a uk based call center but best phone subport ive had in years i was on the top package with a fixed ip which was unlimted , i forum is friendly as well. took 6 working days from ordering for it to be swiched on , only downside i found was that only a few types of routers can be used but the free one you get was pretty solid for me and i torrented and played wow a lot .

Which is fair enough, but my housemates aren't in any way computer minded, telnet would be a bit above them (I only moved in 2 months ago).

It'd be nice not to have to faff about with it at all tbh, when I first signed up, and had to use wireless, I replaced it with a netgear and had no issues, but when I could get my own line in my room, it became moot point so I sold the netgear and wired the line up.

Cracking service at a cracking price regardless :)

I didn't phrase my last post very well so I will retry... :p

How long does it take to get transfered to ADSL24 or UKFSN? I need to know when to book it in without wasting what time I have left with BT.

Shameless pimp.

www.zen.co.uk

Good pings and routing
Newsgroups
No blocked ports
No traffic shaping
Very good technical support :D

With BTWholsale you can get congestion at the exchange unless you go LLU or buy an office product. Also at the ISP on the "BT Central pipes", They are kept as non congested as possible.

Should probably mention I work there for legal reasons.

i was with zen...they have probably the best customer support ive ever seen.
but they cant match products and price unfortunately....especially for me as i got be unbundled in my area.

22meg for 18 quid with be.....damn cheap and damn fast

bad points about be...call centres are not uk based so when i phoned up and couldnt understand the guy he got a bit peed(i wasnt funny with him but genuinly couldnt understand him).
no email unless u pay extra....i dont mind paying 24 quid for a great service what i was paying..... but dont want to pay 2 extra for email addys when they are free all over the net.

lol AOL suck hard.

what problems have you had with BT? i have the 8meg package back at home and have never had any problems.. even sent us a free home hub and more recently a free bt vision package

the same here, I download torrents all the time.

BT Broadband torrent time slot:

Speed 846 Kbyte the max i can get between 1am-3pm
Speed 100-400 kbyte between 3pm-6pm

after 6pm - 1am the speed drops to 11 Kbyte :( thats the only time I stop my torrent downloads.

HTTP speed:

Full 8mbit between 12midnight - 6pm next day
1mbit speed between 6.10pm to 12midnight.

Here you go this is a full summery of bt Speed during the day on both HTTp/p2p protocols

Edit: the ping i used to get with CSS = 30-50ms then I CALLED bt and requested to swtich off my interleave i am getting 10-17ms max now :) I m getting 9ms at TF2 and i can get minimum of 15ms with COD4 and i can get 7ms with ping www.bbc.co.uk at cmd line
