Hi.

Well apparently my speed is been throttled my AOL because I download too much according to there fair usage policy, and the connection seems crappy anyway.

So I'm wondering, whats the best ISP to go for? I live up north in north yorkshire and cant get ISP's like Be so I dont know which is the best, any good ones thats cheaper than AOL and also have a better Fair Usage policy and dont keep throttling you?

You get shot on site. :D

It says (somewhere) that there is a £5 + vat admin charge plus the difference to the next package.

It's too expensive going for a higher package.

How exactly do you know how much usage limit you got left? is there a meter somewere?

Is off peak between the times of 6PM and 12AM? so there is no Down speed throttle on this?

I'm on 2MB so it doesn't affect me too much to be honest... but I gather you can check usage on their site once you're enrolled with them...

There are several tools available to monitor usage and off peak is 10pm - 8am during the week and all of Saturday and Sunday.

ADSL24 are probably one of the best non-LLU based ISPs out there at the moment, if you can get Be* then I would also highly recomend them.

AOL say LLU is coming to my area in november (I think), does this mean it will be AOL only, the LLU part?

I've just signed up to ADSL24, apparently they're the mutts nutts... http://adsl24.co.uk/broadband_home.php

Their forum is also full of sickeningly happy users (trust me, I did my research)... http://www.adsl24.co.uk/forum/ :D

Sounds very promising. Will have to look into it. Pipex is doing my head in with the fair usage policy thing. I need to get my dad to change. He pays £14.99 a month now. I guess me suggesting that I pay the full £34.99 a month would change his mind :p

What kind of download speeds are you getting atm ?

yes, that does only mean only AOL for now.

i have no idea what lee87 is on about. sure other isps are free to install their own equipment in your exchange but that's upto them whether they do or not. llu providers are completely independent of each other. just because ISP A is coming doesn't mean B, C and D are coming as well.

Yes, you'll only be able to get AOL's LLU service, not anyone else's - AOL won't install Be kit in your exchange in addition to their own.

If the exchange near me got LLU, would this mean ADSL2 or something? or would it make it possible for me to get 6mb broadband comapred to my current max of 3.4 according to BT?

Not sure yet bud... think my activation date will be Monday or Tuesday! I'm only on fixed 2MB though as my line can't handle anything else due to a 59 attenuation stat... but to be honest it's fast enough for my uses. :)
