Thought it would be interesting to see just who the majority on the forum feel is the best in their respective positions and at the end of it we'll put the votes together to make a full XI

Obviously I'm going to require Rotty/Gilly to make this a poll and should the thread not totally fail we can move on to RB, CB, LB, Winger, CM & Striker

Not sure how many options can be put forward to make a poll (IIRC it's 10) so to get things started I'd nominate the following;

Reina
Cech
Hart
Szczesny
De Gea
Krul
Vorm
Al Habsi
Friedel
Ruddy

Over to you :)

Poll added

Being a CB the only keepers I'd be confident being in front of from that list are:

1) Hart
2) Friedel
3) Reina/Cech (Despite iffy seasons)

Petr Cech has been very solid all season - it was the ten in front of him that were letting him down under AVB - and his performances against Barcelona and Liverpool in the cup final are the standout individual goalkeeping displays I can remember, although admittedly I haven't watched every match played by every team this season. After a few shaky seasons since the injury I'd say he's now the best keeper in the league again, and one of the best in Europe.

Argh! That's too hard to choose! All have had good and bad moments this season.

Iv gone for Friedel as he's turned up to a team at the age of 40 and basically become their no.1 but pretty much all of them could stake a claim for the best keeper in the prem

Chelsea are in the CL final.

They wouldn't have been there without Cech.

This is a results game ;)

Hart is probably going to win the league today, City wouldn't have done it without him. Chelsea fluked past Barca and Napoli, regardless of Cech making some good saves they're only in it due to Barcas inability to finish for once in a blue moon.

What does that have to do with how good Cech has been? With a lesser goalkeeper, their so-called "flukey" performances still wouldn't have been enough to guarantee progression / victory. 9 out of 10 keepers would've let in at least 5 against Barcelona, and nobody would be accusing them of poor finishing were that the case. A great number of things came together to get Chelsea through - some of it luck, some of it Barcelona not having a plan B, and some of it simply that they were playing below their usual standards - but the defensive performance of Chelsea and in particular the goalkeeping of Petr Cech was as big a reason as any they are in the final.

No it isn't. And I can recall one good save by Cech, in the second league vs a low Messi shot which really he should save anyways, think Barca only had like 6 shots on target second leg, maybe less.

BOL - thats a VERY limited / bias view

Look at where Chelsea are in the league , Cech may not be the main failure this season, but he hasnt been at his best either (just like Reina, who until this season I thought was clearly the best keeper in the league, and has been for a number of years)

edit - after reading Tom's second (I think) post stressing "overall" rather than just this season, its impossible to say as some like De Gea have changed leagues (and therefore cant be commented on for vast majorities of posters, who might not have seen him previously), a lot of other g/k may not have played internationals / Euro matches so only have league form to go on, and Cech / Riena have had terrible years compared to their usual high standards

For right or wrong, I still dont think Cech should be allowed to wear the skull cap indefinitely. If he is physically fit enough to be in goal, he shouldnt have any advantage over any other g/k - and if he isnt fit enough, he shouldnt be there in the first place ( while he was recovering from the initial injury, thats one thing......but as an additional piece of kit indefinitely, definitely not)
