I know i can type "Best RPG" into google and get a load of lists or what people think are the best RPGs of all time, this isn't really what i want. Essentially what i want is a Freelancer 2. I loved Freelancer and would love something else to play along those lines.

Essentially what would you recommend me if i am looking for an RPG (not online) which is relatively new (ie good graphics) not necessarily space based but is immersive. Something like Final Fantasy might be good i think but this is only on consoles i believe? Though you can also spec me PS3 games.

Thanks all!

Well as you like space, how about the X series, the latest is Terran Conflict, amazing graphics, seriously immersive and very very long.
Another great RPG is Oblivion, hours and hours of fun, great story tons to do, awesome graphics, lots of addons and an expansion pack too.

Fallout 3, The Witcher and Mass Effect are my favourite modern ones.

Mass Effect is space based but you didnt entirely rule it out.

Make sure to the the enhanced edition of the Witcher, rather than the original release.

I think the original version gets patches for the enhanced stuff? At least thats what the chat was when I was still playing the game. Not tried for ages since my bro stole it back =[

That's true actually, and I think it will patch it up to the enhanced version via the patch option on the launcher.

I think it was the developers rewarding players for buying it when it came out originally. They didnt wanna screw the people who supported them to begin with out of new content. Nice people that they are. :)

If you want an RPG try Oblivion and Fallout 3, amazing games!

Also, how good is the Witcher and how long will it last?

Witcher seems bad to begin with. It has possible one of the slowest beginnings I have played in the game, but once you have got past the first few sections and the game opens up it's great!

It will last for quite a while actually, the storyline is long and you have a lot of decisions to make where you aren't quite sure which is the "right" choice until you venture further into the game.

Mass Effect and X3:Terrain Conflict conflict both look good. What can i say, i'm a sucker for space games!

The Witcher is one of the better story driven games I have played and the world level design and atmosphere cannot be beaten. The combat itself is rather too simplistic, but the rest of the game is so good that you will not care.

I would advise playing Oblivion fully modded - see this thread for a complete overhaul mod (be warned it's beta) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18014388 I did not like vanilla Oblivion and I am now having a blast with this mod even though the early levels are difficult so be prepared to flee.

I can also vouch for Mass Effect - great game.

If you like the D&D rule set then try out Neverwinter Nights 2. The only reason I am not playing it is that it for some reason runs poorly on my PC.

Mass Effect by far.

The Witcher's combat system (more precisely the attack system) is utter tosh, stopped me playing after a few hours.

Oblivion is awesome aswell, but definitely Morrowind if we can count that.

Neverwinter 1 > Neverwinter 2. imo Neverwinter 2 runs like ****
I've played them both and was disappointed with NWN2.

I enjoyed single player NWN2 but online was a huge disappointment :/

I racked up 100's of hours online in nwn1 with all the player made mods :)
