best monitor for around £200

With speakers could I hook them up so anything that went through tv would have sound ( ie the pc, the xbox etc without having to switch wires? ) just trying to work out what I could do

And I'm probably going for a 680 now as opposed to a 7970 as I think they are slightly better ?
This is the most expensive thing I've bought In many years and It will probably be the last "toy" I get for a very long time so I want it to be special and last me a long time

Sorry yeah, so you want to use the speakers with the TV basically? Does your TV have a 3.5mm jack you could plug them into? If so, you could plug them into that. However if you're then just using the PC on a monitor, you'd have to plug them into the PC. Someone else might know a better way if that's what you want to do.

If you're mainly watching stuff on it personally I'd get the Dell - you could also get away with a cheaper GPU if you're not running 120Hz.

Get the DELL 2412M.
It is a low end IPS screen but it is amazing. I play BF3 a lot and have no idea what this 'ohh IPS screens are rubbish for gaming' stuff is all about. I still come top of the round and have never seen any ghosting.
A low end IPS screen takes a gigantic dump on any VA panel.
Plus the 2412M is 1200p rather than 1080p.

If you haven't got the message yet, buy a 2412M!!!! :p

No one said IPS are rubbish for gaming, just 60hz is really inferior to 120hz if you have the pc setup to handle it to run properly and the Dell has low input lag making it one of the most ideal gaming IPS panels.

Sure, if your monitor is above 27". Below that you aren't going to notice much of a difference.

dell 2410 vs dell 2412m

whats the difference in lamens terms ? and as someone primarily using it for movies would it be worth the extra money? (bearing in mind i always will be using it for gaming/web browsing and possibly my wife photo editing etc)

please someone:P im hoping to buy it tonight:D
also given the more expensive one appears to have been around for longer, surely the technology is somewhat dated?

The main difference is that the U2410 supports an expanded colour gamut, while the U2412M is standard colour gamut. So long as you don't do image editing using an expanded colour space then the U2412M is fine.

The U2410 also has more video inputs and uses a H-IPS panel (compared to an E-IPS panel in the U2412M) - this generally means that the U2410 has a bit wider viewing angles, though the viewing angles on the U2412M are still good.

If you look at this tftcentral review of the U2412M they actually directly compare the U2412M and the U2410 in most areas.

Bottom line - for your uses the U2412M is the best option due to the lower cost and still excellent performance - but with slightly less features (which you may not use anyway).
