Best Multiplayer FPS?

personal best ever is Quake 2. The late 90s was the true pinacle of online FPS so far...you were either CS or Quake2. Now there are too many games that divide the community, and no modern FPS multiplayer game is that good to be honest.
Although Quake2 was my favourite, being objective I'd have to say that Quake3 was the best ever online FPS...had most polished gameplay and gaming engine and best weapons.
Problem with Quake now is that it's really not noob friendly. The players are too high standard, that when noobs try it, they are discouraged to the point of not trying it again.

The best online FPS IMO is Project Reality, ( A Mod for BF2 ), other then that all other games are very booring after the first half hour, (multiplayer's anyway.
i can play PR for like 5 hours, with constant talking in Teamspeak as it has a good community. cant find any other game to play tactically etc. just mindless rubbish mostly, too much nostalgia for DFLW
ah delta force land warrior. i loved that game, specially when you got control of a nade platform
my favortie has to be BF2..although, i dont play anymore. i just lost interest. i hated the rinse and repeat gaming nature of diving to the ground as soon as you see an enemy. they said they got rid of that in a patch.. but, people kept on doing it and im no saint. i did it too. and the fact the huge patches also put me off as i reformat quite a bit.
want to get cod4 but going to get it on console, so wont play online i dont think,

I can't belive no one has mentioned the original Enemy Territory. That plus qwctf and q2 ctf have got to be my faves.

I love ET:QW.
After the second update, i went through and added loads of UK servers to my favourites list, and just refresh that list, but there have never been many servers that had people in, and when I went on the other night it was completely dead!
It's sad, cause I feel this game is really under-rated. I have tried several times to get into the online FPS games, and this was the first that really had me hooked to any degree.
Though the quick bash I had at COD4 over the weekend was not bad, and will be giving UT3 a try tonight.

I love BF2 however EA really didn't think about anything but gameplay and the login system and navigation is aweful. CSS is a brilliant game, loads of fun, i just kind of overplayed it a little

I'm normally on the Tibet Temple, purely because it's normally 28/32~ with sub 80ms pings. Mail in trust if you're floating on there at any point.
Couldn't agree more, I played CS:S to death when it first came out but I couldn't get in to it. People jumping around like loonies and getting headshots from the otherside of the map started to get old very fast. I'm reserving TF2 for when ET:QW dies, which sadly might be quite soon judging by the numbers. It's a real shame, the objectives and classes are spot on and can lead to some really good team play - and some equally hysterical guffs too
I normally just join any server with a low ping that’s in warmup on the first map of a campaign.
