Best Need for Speed?

Well so far we've have advocates for NFS2SE, NFS3, NFS4, NFS5, NFS6, NFS8 and NFS9 :) Quite a varied opinion although I'm glad to see a few other people bigging up Porsche like me. I think it's a good example of how the NFS series can be more than just a by-the-numbers arcade racer, the kind of game which could interest some of the non-hardcore simmers.

So only NFS6 (Underground) and NFS10 (Carbon) need some supporters now.

Didn't play any of them before NFS Underground, recently bought NFS Most Wanted, don't really like it at all.

They make you spend $$$ tuning your car up, then in the boss race they enable AI Catch-Up, so all that money is effectively wasted.

I've not bothered with Carbon, it'd have to be quite a shift back towards NFSU2, which I really quite liked, for me to consider it.

NFSU fan all the way here! ;)

I only got NFSU2 by accident not that long ago, and only got MW last week and Carbon, cos well, we've all seen the adverts have we not?

I am still so surprised at just how many there are ???

Well, ok, there is 10 - Thanks for that, but what are they all?

I might have a go at having a scout round and get the lot, cos I have to be 100% with you on this, but I hate racing games... Always have... But this NFS stuff is a change from the usual reacing game and I have liked it... A LOT!

Oh, Im annoyed here, but I have just lost my Carbon data... The thing is, that I kept having to CTRL-ALT-DEL and kill off the game ( Not being a fan of simply pressing "Q" it seems ) and because of that, I think I have just messed up my career info? So, I am having to start all over.

Just starting to like Carbon over U2 so thats one for Carbon for you.

ONLY because its the one game that I am actually better at, than my kids, and thats only cos I wont let them play it, and I wont buy it them for the XBOX.

Does nt Underground 2 also do that to a point?

I know that no matter how far I push my spending on whatever car I have, be it a super-duper Supra, or a bog-standard Ford Focus, every car I race against always goes ahead, and I eventually catch them up.

It seems that no matter what I race, its always the same, with their acceleration always being X% better than whatever I am in and then my top speed always Y% better than theirs...

To a point yes. But in NFSU2 I could build a lead through good skilled driving that allowed me to maybe crash once and/or spin out and still recover to win. That way the player is rewarded for being skillful.

In NFSMW the computer car is always up your backside, even if you're fully tuned, and race perfectly. I tried the first blacklist racer with an untuned Lexus, and managed to win, by about a second. Then I went back later with a Mustang, and tried that race again. Made no mistakes, was very careful, yet still, if I made a mistake it lost me the race! And still only won by just over a second! :D

Carbon :)

I have only played them since NFSU2, which was ok at the time, but it now a bit chaved up tbh. I liked MW, but it was a bit long winded, but a good game. I have Carbon and the NFS games are best played at the night time, although having the U2 in the night & then MW played in the day, I was expecting Carbon to have a 24 hour with both day & night. I do like Carbon and it is the best game, with great cars including the Zonda, and no dodgy neon lights. I do like to continuation from MW, but not sure on why Cross is in the game, seems to be waist.

NFSU:2

Loved every part of it, all the different types of races, the challenges having shops dotted around the city etc.

Carbon really dissapointed me. It was far too short and easy - i had it beat over the weekend. The only saving thing about it was the autosculpt thing.

I liked the original Need for Speed that came out on the PC and 3DO until most wanted came out.. Still got the 3DO and original PC version of Need for Speed, which will have to be a good 7 years ago.

Ah ,sodding things.

Im very quickly hating NFSU2 more and more now every time I play it.

I have got as far as getting the 350z... ( Just after the second bit of the coal harbor gets opened ) which is what? stage 5?

Anyway, I have just gone hunting around, looking for the people on the roads etc to take them on, and I have just taken 7 on, and I have lost 6

Ok, I know what you are thinking... Im not good enough, well the problem is, that I am...

What has happened with all the ones I lost, is that I was seemingly in the lead, and then all of a sudden, the green bar turns red and I am in the wrong direction, or the worst one, is that I catch up, I get into the lead, and they turn down a road??? - sort of as if the bar has acceped that I have gone in front, but the rest of the game thinks the other car is still in front... I really do know thats a bug, not just think it.

The worst one though, that really piddled me off, was that I had a nearly full bar, with about 3mm left to go and I hit a wall... The other car also hit the very same wall just as I had got myself back on track, I shot off in the direction I was going before I hit the wall and lo and behold, by a miracle, even though I was going in the same direction, even though I left the scene a good few seconds before the other driver... I was going in the wrong direction???

Ah, I bloody hate that.

What I have found though, and I realised this a fair while back, is that if you keep one car thats a slow one, and occasionally use that instead, because the other cars are just enough so you can beat them, then using a slower car allows you that extra time to actually race... You can them keep your good cars for other stuff like the DVD / Video sponsors etc..

Its got me this far, so its got some merit.

Oh dear, i actually happened to love NFS 2 SE, yes its old, but it was arcade styling racing done right, perhaps i only liked it because i was young though :\

Next to that, i loved porsche 2000 and hot pursuit 2, i found carbon and most wanted rubbish.

Anyone else think the city in Most Wanted was far superior to any other NFS 'scene'? Carbon has a really disappointing urban area to drive in.

It's probably the best of the cities, but NFS5 has some gorgeous, varied environments.
